How Weeds Ruin Your Corn Harvest Fast
I was amazed to see the real disadvantage that weeds bring to a farm.
I think of maize crops as one of the most resilient and probably would not be fazed by the weeds but, overgrown weeds to a certain level can most definitely stop the weeds.
People usually see nice, big green bushes on a farm and think everything is going great. But if you know how to grow maize or corn, you know that below the surface there is a large war going on beneath the weeds. You also know that the weeds are winning the war by covering and choking out the corn plants.
Maize is a plant that grows well using a lot of strength and nutrients from the soil. If you allow wild grasses to grow with your corn, it will consume all the nutrients from the soil before your maize. In the end, all your harvest will be made up of thin, weak stalks and empty corn ears.
An intelligent farmer checks how the plants are growing and if the weeds are taking all the plant's space, not just looking at the height of the plants.
Before you can bring a tractor to plough in and on a bushy piece of land, you should have a good plan. If you simply use your tractor to bury the mature weeds in the mud, the weed seeds will come back and take over the entire field next year. The right way to do it is to cut the bush completely and allow the sunlight to hit the ground and allow the maize to thrive on the soil alone.
Bare in mind that farming is about thinking and planning your actions, not rushing. Keeping your field clean will give you true weight in the market for your maize.
