The diary game||"Observance of Rabindra Jayanti"
The 25th of Boishakh marks a day of immense cultural significance in the lives of Bengalis—a day when the nation celebrates its most cherished festival. It is the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the World Poet, Rabindranath Tagore. According to the Bengali calendar, this day is observed annually on the 25th of the month of Boishakh. However, today we celebrated it in a slightly different manner. In truth, during our school and college days, we typically observed this occasion within the premises of our respective educational institutions, as it is a festival celebrated nationwide. The beloved poet Rabindranath Tagore is truly incomparable—a figure of extraordinary talent and unparalleled genius. Thus, yesterday, we celebrated this festival on the rooftop of our hostel.
Currently, as I am a student at Burdwan University, I reside on campus; the university grounds house a total of six hostels for female students. I live in the Sarojini Hostel, and it was in this very hostel—and nowhere else—that Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated. Since the festival was not observed in any of the other hostels, several residents from the Mirabai Hostel came to ours as guests to join in the festivities.
Our little rooftop event began right at dusk. We set up a portrait of Rabindranath Tagore, placed alongside a portrait of Sarojini—the renowned woman after whom our hostel is named. The portraits were then adorned with garlands of tuberose flowers. Following this, water and sweets were offered before the images. Many of us had dressed up for the occasion, wearing sarees and new outfits. Once we were all ready, we headed up to the rooftop.
The program commenced with a beautiful dance performance. This was followed by poetry recitations, songs, and a series of dance performances, featuring participants from among our hostel's juniors, seniors, and my own classmates. Although the event was originally scheduled to last for just one hour, many people spontaneously decided to participate right there on the spot while watching the proceedings. As a result, the program became even more lively and extended well beyond its planned duration. Meanwhile, we sat in the audience, cheering and encouraging the performers with our applause. Everyone delivered excellent performances. Among the guests who had arrived from other hostels, one even took the stage to perform a dance. However, we did have to contend with a significant mosquito nuisance.
Anyway, I was trying to snap a few pictures. However, since I was seated on the opposite side, the photographs appeared almost like silhouettes. Yet, the beautiful glimmers of light that fell upon the scene made it seem as though Rabindranath Tagore himself was hidden within that luminous reflection, looking on. All in all, we had a wonderful time. Finally, we all gathered together for a group photo; the event was then brought to a close by serving a sweet treat to everyone present.
| I hope you will like my post very much. I will be back again with a new post later. Until then, everyone stay well. May God keep everyone healthy. |
