It happened just a few days ago—the day my elder brother and I went out to shop for some essential items. At the time, the weather was still slightly chilly; moreover, as circumstances required me to prepare to move away from my family for the sake of my studies, I needed to purchase several new things. I headed to Colony More in Barasat to buy a blanket and a bedsheet to take with me to the hostel. From there, we proceeded to Chapadali More—an area situated within Kolkata—where numerous shops are located, making it easy to procure all manner of necessary supplies.
My elder brother and I first went out to buy bed covers. We looked at a shop that had a selection of bed covers in the small size we needed. However, the small-sized bed covers predominantly featured cartoon designs—patterns that are typically quite popular among young children. Since we couldn't find any small-sized bed covers without these specific designs, we were compelled to simply choose a color from the available options and purchase one. This was necessary because hostel beds tend to be quite small. The available colors included red, yellow, and pink, and each color featured the exact same design. I chose the pink bed cover, which was originally priced at 185 Indian rupees; however, I managed to purchase it for 150 rupees.
Afterward, we headed to a blanket shop. We were looking for something neither too large nor too small; specifically, upon entering the store, we asked to be shown medium-sized blankets. The shopkeeper showed us several solid-colored blankets, none of which appealed to us. Consequently, we ultimately ended up purchasing a blanket featuring a colorful, patterned design. The solid-colored blankets were priced at 500 Indian rupees; however, since we did not care for them, we opted to buy the other blanket for 850 rupees. Although it came with a higher price tag, the cost was justified by its beautiful design and comfort.
