SLC S-30-W2// "Tradional Steam Cooking-Raagi Puttu(Steamed Finger Millet Cake)"
I am inviting all my Steemit friends to the second week of the “Steemit Challenge Season-30 Week-2 || "Traditional Steam Cooking Challenge” competition. In the second week of the competition, we will be making Raagi Puttu(Steamed Finger Millet Cake)". Today I will share my entry in this awesome competition.
List the steamed dishes made in your region. Which one is your favorite and why?
I live in Bangladesh, Bangladesh has many traditional steamed dishes that are popular because steamed food is soft, healthy and full of natural flavors. Some of the common steamed dishes in my region include:
Bhapa Pitha - The most popular winter pitha is Bhapa Pitha, which is a soft rice pitha made with rice flour, coconut and jaggery.
Bhapa Hilsa - Bhapa Hilsa is usually steamed with mustard paste, green chilies and mustard oil, which tastes amazing.
Chitoi Pitha - Small round steamed rice pitha often served with jaggery or spicy fish, which tastes great.
Dudh Chitoi - Chitoi pitha served in milk sweetened with sugar or jaggery.
Patishapta Pitha - Patisapta pitha is sometimes cooked in a pan, but is often prepared in a steamed or steam-based method with a coconut and jaggery filling.
I would definitely put bapa hilsa on my list of favorite steamed dishes. Because bapa hilsa becomes very soft and delicious when steamed with mustard paste and green chilies. The steaming process retains the natural flavor of the fish and the mustard gives it a rich and spicy taste. Hilsa is the national fish of Bangladesh and hilsa bapa is a traditional dish that represents the authentic taste of the food of my region.
Make the Raagi Puttu(Steamed Finger Millet Cake) that is shared in the course or make it as per your style, with a detailed step-by-step procedure along with images.

Step 2:
When the rice powder is fried, I take the fried rice powder in a bowl, at this stage I add 1 teaspoon of salt to the rice powder, then mix it with the dry rice powder by stirring it. Then I add water little by little to the rice powder and knead it well with the palm of my hand to make a dough mixture. Following the recipe steps, do not make the dough into a lump, the dough will be smooth so that when pressed in the hand it forms a ball.

Step 4:
I placed a perforated plate on the mouth of the pot, spread a cotton cloth on it and spread the mixed flour on it. I placed it over a pot of boiling water, covered it and steamed it. I placed the water in such a way that the flour mixture did not touch the water.

Step 5:
After steaming the flour mixture for 15 minutes, I opened the pot, took out the plate, and poured the flour mixture from the cloth onto a plate. For aroma and taste, I added cardamom powder to the steamed flour, grated coconut and jaggery for a sweet taste. Then I stirred everything together to make a mixture.

Step 6:
In the last step, to give the Raggi phuttu an attractive look, I put the steamed mixture in a bowl, then grated coconut. After applying two layers like this, I finally covered it with the steamed mixture again. After serving the final presentation in a bowl, I decorated it with bananas.
Conclusion
Raggi Phuttu recipe has some similarity with the cooking method and ingredients of our Bangladeshi made Bhapa Pitha. But I have never prepared it. Raggi flour for this was not available in my area, so I am very happy to be a part of this great competition by following the lessons of our beloved teacher. New additions, new feelings, really a wonderful experience.
