Steemit Challenge Season-30 Week-5 || "Traditional Steam Cooking- Khaman Dhokla (Gram Flour Cake) "
Hi friends, dear steemians
Welcome to the 5th week of Season 30 of the Steemit Learning Challenge. I want to express my gratitude to @steemitblog for this chance. Every week in this course, we will examine the ingredients, cooking methods, and health advantages of traditional steamed foods. I hope you enjoy and continue to support these interesting contests each week.
The healthy traditional steam cooking
As I said last week Steaming is one of the cooking methods that our ancestors have taught us. Since it does not add oil, this cooking method is considered a healthy one. The dishes prepared this way are delicious and healthy. If you include steamed foods in your daily diet, you will not get problems like cancer, heart disease, weight gain, digestive problems, and high blood cholesterol.
I would like to introduce you to another healthy steamed dish this week called "Khaman Dhokla (Gram Flour Cake) ". Khaman Dhokla is a quick dish prepared by steaming a mixture of gram flour, lemon juice, sugar, and curry leaves. It is an indispensable and renowned delicacy in the Indian state of Gujarat.

Gram flour - 2 cups
Oil
Sugar

Nutrition facts of Gram Flour
Gram flour (Besan) is a nutritious, gluten-free food rich in protein, fiber, and essential minerals. 100 grams of gram flour contains approximately 356 calories, 21–22 grams of protein, 10 grams of fiber, and 6 grams of fat. It is an excellent source of iron, magnesium, potassium, and folate, which aids in heart health and weight management.
Consuming foods prepared with gram flour may help reduce levels of LDL—the "bad" cholesterol—in the body. Consequently, this also helps prevent the risk of developing heart disease.
Since this flour possesses a low Glycemic Index (GI), it helps maintain balanced blood sugar levels without causing them to spike. As a result, the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes is reduced.
Khaman Dhokla (Gram Flour Cake) with steam
STEP 1:
First, in a small bowl, add a quarter teaspoon of baking soda to half a glass of water, mix it thoroughly, and set it aside.
STEP 2:
Take a large bowl, add two cups of gram flour to it, and mix in one spoonful of sugar, turmeric powder, a spoonful of oil and salt to taste.
Take a lemon, cut it open, extract the juice, remove the seeds, and mix only the juice into the flour.
Next, pour in water and mix thoroughly using a whisk. While mixing, ensure that no lumps form in the flour. Continue adding water and mixing until the mixture reaches the consistency of a smooth batter.
STEP 3:
Take a round or square-shaped pan with high sides, and grease it by coating it with oil.
Then, take the dissolved gram flour batter add the disolved cooking soda water in to it and mix well to become flyffy and pour it in the greased plate, spreading it out evenly.
STEP 4:
Pour water into a vessel and bring it to a boil; then, place the plate containing the dough inside, cover it, and steam it for seven minutes.
STEP 5:
While the dough is steaming, take a bowl, pour in some water, and prepare a sugar syrup.
STEP 6:
Simultaneously, place a pan on the stove, add some oil, and sauté mustard seeds, asafotida, curry leaves, and green chilies until well-sautéed.
Once thoroughly sautéed, turn off the stove and allow the mixture to cool down; after it has cooled, add the sugar syrup and mix well to make coating liquid.
STEP 7:
After steaming for seven minutes, open the lid, remove the plate, and invert it onto another plate to transfer the gramflour cake.
STEP 8:
Now, take the prepared coating liquid and pour it over the cake in various spots, then spread it out thoroughly. While doing so, ensure that the curry leaves and mustard seeds are distributed evenly.
STEP 9:
Now, using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut it into small pieces in the desired shape. Then, arrange them on a plate and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Now the steamed Khaman Dhokla(Gram Flour Cake) are ready. This can be served as a breakfast or evening snack. When serving, it pairs well with coconut chutney, mint chutney, or a spicy green chutney. For children, it can also be served with tomato sauce.
