Mirch Masala Restaurant, Vadodara

in Hindwhale Community4 months ago (edited)

Assalam-O-Alikum Friends,

Usually, time is spent in household chores throughout the day, but yesterday was a new experience because in the evening I went for dinner with my neighbors at Mirch Masala restaurant in Inorbit Mall, Vadodara. The morning started as usual with household chores—cooking breakfast, cleaning, doing some daily responsibilities. The weather was also a bit pleasant, so there was a slight freshness in the mind. After completing all the work till noon, I took some rest and then prepared dal, fried rice and some salad for myself and ate it. The whole day was not very hectic, but because of the outing in the evening, there was a different curiosity in the mind.

As the evening approached, all of us neighbors—about five-six people—came out together. Sometimes getting such opportunities is a matter of happiness in itself. Amidst the household chores and responsibilities, what could be better than going out with your neighbors and giving yourself some time. As always, the atmosphere of Inorbit Mall was a bit bustling, the lights were shining and the people coming and going inside the mall seemed busy somewhere or the other, moving at their own pace. As we approached Mirch Masala restaurant, the colorful wall outside gave the first glimpse of what the atmosphere inside would be like. Seeing the paintings of old film actresses on the wall, it felt as if a poster of an old Hindi film was standing in front of me. In one picture, an actress was seen smiling with a green fruit in her hand seeing which one felt a strange warm feeling of belonging.

As soon as we stepped inside the restaurant it felt as if we had entered a Bollywood story of the 70s and 80s. There were large, colorful paintings on the walls somewhere a pose of a film hero, somewhere a village scene, somewhere an actress standing near a truck-everything was made in such a beautiful manner that the eyes automatically stayed there for some time. Everyone in our group remained silent for a moment and got lost in looking at these paintings. A different story on every wall and a different color in every story. No one felt as if they were sitting in a restaurant; Rather, it seemed as if we had arrived on a film set. This place really has a different identity because of its theme.

Our seating area was also very comfortable. Warm lighting all around, wooden tables, copper glasses and colorful napkins – all these things together create a very desi and beautiful atmosphere. The people sitting nearby also seemed to be immersed in the same ambiance. Some people were looking at the menu, some were talking, and some were simply lost in the artwork on the walls. At such places it seems as if time passes a little slower.

The first thing that arrived on our table was the papad with lots of sev, onion, tomato and coriander leaves—so crunchy and fresh. A tall glass of cold buttermilk was kept with it, which looks very refreshing even in the picture. There was a little spice sprinkled on it, which makes the taste even more interesting. This small starter lifted our mood even before the food arrived. Everyone was engaged in conversation, some were laughing and joking, some were sharing the things of the day. At such moments, food tastes even better.

Then came the turn of the main course. We ordered some chicken dishes, which are considered to be the specialty of Mirch Masala. Their menu has many delicious options like Chicken Handi + Murgh Masala + Chicken Angara + Butter Chicken and Tandoori Chicken. We tried some of these. The chicken masala gravy was so aromatic and rich that it seemed as if all the spices had been mixed and cooked in a perfect manner. The chicken was soft and well-cooked. Hot tuduk-tuduk accompanied by chapatis and fresh salad – just looking at the entire plate increases the appetite. A neighbor even jokingly said, “Let's take a diet break today,” and everyone laughed at this. Such small moments along with food make the outing memorable.

The waiter was also very polite. In one of your photos he is seen noting the order, which shows that the service was also quite good. Staff behavior plays half the role in a good experience at any restaurant, and here it was quite positive.

We lost track of time while eating and talking. The paintings on the walls attracted the eye again and again – somewhere a boy sitting under a tree, somewhere a character holding a guitar, somewhere an old shop and a husband standing with his wife standing near him. There seemed to be a story hidden in every scene. If anyone wants, they can weave different stories by looking at these paintings. That's the beauty of this place you don't just come to eat food, you come to live an experience.

After dinner was over, we came out as comfortably as we had come in. The lights outside, the excitement of the mall and the joy of this outing – everything combined made me feel very light and happy. Whenever such outings happen with family or neighbors, a little energy comes back amidst the busyness of life. Mirch Masala's Bollywood theme, delicious food and above all the company of my people - all these three made this evening special for me.

Yesterday became a beautiful memory in itself, and perhaps these small happiness make our day meaningful. I felt like going there again some next weekend—maybe this time try some more dishes and experience the stories of these walls again.
