Varna Gold Treasure and Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis – Black Sea Coast, Varna, Bulgaria. The Varna Gold Treasure is considered the oldest gold treasure in the world or the oldest human processed gold in the world dating back to the time of the Chalcolithic (Aeneolithic, Copper Age) Varna Culture – 4,550-4,320 BC.

Raycho Marinov, 65, the man who stumbled upon the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis with the Varna Gold Treasure while operating an excavator near Bulgaria’s Varna 43 years ago, back in 1972 when he was 22. Marinov is seen here posing with the exhibit in Brussels, the first exhibit of the oldest gold in the world that he has ever been invited to.
