What happened today in history? "Brooklyn bridge"... 1883

Before 148 years (January 3, 1870) the construction of Brooklyn Bridge began in the city of New York. The construction took 13 years, and it was opened on May 1883, 1883 (135 years after the beginning). While it was being constructed, 14 people lost their life. The total length of the bridge is 5,989 ft (1,825.4 m) with the width of 85 ft (25.9 m).
The Brooklyn Bridge was designed by John Augustus Roebling who was a German architect and built many other bridges as well.
Right now the Brooklyn Bridge stands as one of the biggest symbols of New York. It connects Manhattan and Brooklyn.
