conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Muhammad al fatih

in #history6 years ago (edited)

imageSultan Muhammad al-Fatih prepared more than 4 million soldiers who would besiege Constantinople from land. At the time of besieging the Byzantine stronghold many Ottoman troops were killed because of the strong defense of the fortress. The siege that lasted no less than 50 days, thoroughly testing the Ottoman troops' patience, drained their energy, mind, and supplies.

The formidable defense of this great Roman empire was seen from the beginning. Before the enemy reached their fortress, the Byzantines had lined their seas with chains stretching on the Golden Horn peninsula. It is impossible to touch Byzantine fortress except by crossing the chain.

Finally Sultan Muhammad found the idea he considered was the only way to get past the fence. This idea is similar to that done by the Kiev princes who attacked Byzantine in the 10th century, the princes of Kiev pulled his ship out the Bosphorus Strait, around Galata, and launched it back in the Golden Horn, but their troops were still defeated by the Byzantine Romans . Sultan Muhammad did so in a more clever way, he took his vessel 70 through Galata to the estuary after oiling the logs. It was done in a very short time, not until one night.

In the morning, the Byzantines were taken aback, they had no idea that the Sultan Muhammad and his troops had taken their vessels by land. 70 ships crossed by land overgrown with large trees, cutting down trees and wading ships overnight were an impossibility according to them, but that is what happened.

Terrible warfare ensued, an untouchable fortress as a symbol of Byzantine power was finally attacked by people who were not afraid of death. Eventually the great empire of the 11th century fell into the hands of the Muslims. The massive battle resulted in 265,000 Muslim troops dead. On the 20th Jumadil Early 857 H along with May 29, 1453 AD, Sultan Muhammad successfully entered the City of Constantinople. From then on he was known as Sultan Muhammad al-Fatih, conqueror of Constantinople.

Upon entering Constantinople, Sultan Muhammad al-Fatih descended from his horse and bowed down as a sign of gratitude to God. After that, he headed for Hagia Sophia Church and ordered to replace it as a mosque. Constantinople served as the capital, the central government of the Ottoman Empire and the city was renamed to Islambul which means Islamic country, eventually changed into Istanbul
