One Thing Unpleasant in Gyeongju National Museum
Gyeongju city was a museum itself. Whole city was under the excavation.
I could take photos of digging for excavation every where I went to
So it would be natural that there was no enough place to display the relics founded.
I was so unpleasant to see the relics were accumulated in narrow window.
Especially as seeing the golden relics and the earthenwares were displayed together unclassified in small chamber.
In the corner, the inside of tomb was reproduced, but the space was too narrow to show it’s story.
It was all but impossible to explain about that.
That was just the accumulation of the old things.
I was so sorry to our ancestors who had made these relics of the great art.
There are more than hundreds of tombs not excavated yet.
The relics displayed in the museum were the result of the excavation in few small tomb.
If we dig more tomb, the relics might be abandoned by the street.
What made me frustrated was that this museum was build in 1975.
Year of 1975 was under the rule of military government.
The president Park Jeong Hee seized the power with military coup in 1961.
Many people including me was negative to the former president Park Jeong Hee.
But he did many things to improve the basic foundation for studying history and culture of own country.
So called Civilian political leaders had done not som much for studying history and culture.
They criticized the former president, but their achievement was less than that of Park Jeong Hee.
While looking at the museum, I was some what angry.
Of course there could be difference between the point of view on what the importance is.
But it seems that there was too much indifferences on their ancestors’ glorious historical and cultural assets.
The relics of Shilla dynasty are the treasures not only for Korea but also for the world
The most important mission of the political leader is setting the value and the justice.
Peace could be enforced with the exchange of culture and history.
So called Civilian politicians seem to think endless political struggle.
I expect the righteous job of political leaders in Korea.
After and before of taking political power must be different in my opinion.
Thank you for reading..
These are amazing pictures. All of these priceless treasures! Thanks .
Amazing insights. History must be preserved at all cost. Look at this beauty.
Whenever I come across old buildings or excavation land one thing which surprises me is that our ancestors were not that simple or less advanced what we can perceive now.
They were living good lives according to their standards and they have built somethings which we can't even do now.
This is a great post about the relics in the Gyeongju National Museum. You are right that these historical objects should be secured and preserved safely; these objects are priceless and should be handled with care
Thank you so much
That’s to bad that they don’t display the relics better. At least they are not leaving them in the ground and building on top of them.
Thank you, lol

Korea is a very interesting coutry!
It seems that such historical objects must be kept and kept in good order according to their criteria ..., not to be left alone ... because it could be smuggled out of Korea ..., history as the identity of a nation ... must be maintained. .., about your concern and concern @slowwalker .. i really agree ..
