Entre los años 1870 y 1871 cursó estudios en la University College School.

Antes de dedicarse a la pintura, probó suerte como actor. Pero en el año 1883 se trasladó a París, y allí conoció a Édgar Degar, quien influyó en su vida artística de manera determinante. A partir de esta fecha, Sickert se dedicó a la pintura como artista y como docente.

Los temas de sus obras desataron debates y comentarios despectivos hacia las mismas, entre estos destacan: sexo, muerte y prostitución, entre otros.

Contrajo nupcias en tres ocasiones: Se casó por primera vez con Ellen Melicant, en el año 1885, y se divorció de esta en el año 1899. Luego se casó con Christine Angus, en el año 1911, y quedó viudo en el año 1920. Finalmente, se casó con la pintora Thèrèse Lessore, en el año 1926, y vivió con ella hasta que él falleció, el 22 de enero de 1942, en Bath, Inglaterra, Reino Unido, a los 81 años.

This painter was born on May 31, 1860, in Munich, Germany. He was the son of the Danish-German artist Oswald Sickert; his mother was Eleanor Louisa Henry, the illegitimate daughter of Richard Sheepshanks.

Between 1870 and 1871, he studied at University College School.

Before dedicating himself to painting, he tried his hand at acting. But in 1883, he moved to Paris, where he met Edgar Degar, who had a decisive influence on his artistic life. From that point on, Sickert dedicated himself to painting as both an artist and a teacher.

The themes of his works sparked debate and derogatory comments, including sex, death, and prostitution, among others.

He married three times: He first married Ellen Melicant in 1885, and they divorced in 1899. He then married Christine Angus in 1911, and was widowed in 1920.
