The annual Amazon Re:Mars conference on technological advances was held in Vegas USA, where the new advances in AI and robotics and their application in everyday life are presented.

The disturbing part is that during the conference a video was shown where Álexa read a story to a child using the voice of her deceased grandmother.

Amazon Vice President Roid Prasad highlighted the role of this technology in reminding us of lost loved ones, saying

"in these times and in progress when many of us have lost someone we love, although artificial intelligence cannot eliminate the pain of the loss can definitely make your memories last.”

Reproducing the voice of deceased beings is not something new, we can see it in old recordings or audio tapes, but in this case the difference is that we are going to hear them say things that they never said, it could even go further, With a conversational bot, more data about the life and personality of the deceased could be added, so we could have conversations with artificial intelligence in the same way that we would have them with that person who no longer exists.

This technology also has positive aspects we could, for example, chat with simulations of Albert Einstein or Carl Sagan, it would also allow us to give back the voice to people who lost it, imagine for example Stephen Hawking with an artificial intelligence that has allowed him to communicate with his youthful voice and not with the robotic one or the most recent case of actor val kilmer who lost his voice due to throat cancer and who has teamed up with the start-up son active to create an artificial intelligence-powered voice that reproduces the actor's original voice.

But like any technology there are negative aspects, for example, voice recreation coupled with Deep Fake technology that could create simulations of politicians or famous people saying something they never said and virally spreading those images a couple of days before an election, without there being time to dismantle the deception or false recordings and audios of a character from the past could be created in order to manipulate history.

In the end, this technology is like all the others, a simple tool that is used for good or for evil, it is the responsibility of each one.
