‎Good day fellow artists, my name is lucky, I would like to share with you my first coloured portrait, it was definitely a commission work for one of my client before then I only make black and white portraits using graphite or charcoal pencils, but my client insisted I make a coloured portrait despite knowing I have not done it before, but I picked up the challenge it's was scary at first because I wouldn't have to mess it up

‎## HOW I MADE THE ART

‎so I bought my glossy paper cut out a 12/16 inches paper, I then drew my grid lines to help me get a good proportion of the image provided.
‎ after the grid lines I started making the sketch of the image and then moved to mapping the dark areas of the art work to bring out the 2D feeling even before applying my soft coloured pastels, after shading the dark areas of the art with charcoal powder with a make up brush,
‎ I then move on to applying the first layers of soft pastels with the colours according to the ones on the image to make the drawing look life-like.

‎After applying the first layer of soft pastels we then come to a total layer of two the charcoal dust used to mark the dark areas and the soft pastel layers use to identify where each required colours are supposed to be, then I move to the next phase which is shading with a wax colored pencil, this is the most significant part of the process so I try to handle it with care as it's my first time I used my previous experience when doing black and white portraits to help me execute a neat work, after shading with the wax coloured pencils I still go ahead to shade with charcoal dust or pastels to make the particular area more layered and thick for a premium quality.

‎After going this far with the art, I was very confident to send progress pictures too my client, indeed he was very pleased with it's it gives me more confidence and passion to work more deeply on the art untill am very proud to be the artist behind it, ok let's go back to the process so after adding the third laying of wax colour pencils I then used my erasers to bring out highlights which is very important because it helps differentiate mid tune from highlights, then still using the erasers I clean excess pastels or charcoal dust to get a very sharp look of the edges of the work, then I move on to giving the art piece my branding signature, this being the lasts step and one of the most important part of the work before framing.
