I am a woman and no one ever gave me flowers or jewelry from the moment I left home.
As a child I had jewelry given by my grandfather , a few by my mother (the hateful phrases were included) and I inherited 1/16 part of my grandmother's. I gave it away.
I do not like watching flowers die in a vase. I received a bunch 3 times. Once sent by an aunt as I passed my exams she didn't dare to write her name on the label, once sent by my father in law trying to make me take his drunk son back and once a tiny bunch smelling after gasoline since it was bought in a hurry at a gasstation.
That last bunch was over 18 years ago.
I partly agree with you although to my experiences it's better to be a man (at least it is here). Women care, work their arses off, deliver babies, help children with schoolwork, do the housekeeping, pay the bills, pamper husbands, give their salary away and give up on family, friends, dreams and wishes and are 24/7 exhausted if not depressed.
Men come and go are always liked. They are still adored by their children who are happy to see father showing up once in a while with a pile of presents, taking the children out and he's the generous father and the hero while mom is the scrooge, bitch and always complains.
(talking about stereotypes).
With you I agree it's not about flowers, jewelry (here we say if a man brings them and it's not a birthday he cheated or has something bad to say) but about a connection, love, respect, care and trust is part of it.
A lack of trust starts for a reason and if it would be good to talk about it. Strangely enough people are rarely able (or willing) to do so. Can it be they know it's based on nothing, their own conscious or...
I was sad to read your story about your past and your family, but thankfully you were able to get through it and remain strong in living your life now
I do agree with you, words that can be fulfilled are something precious in our lives. I have accepted many words and keep mine as long as they keep theirs. But, in the end, they broke it and turned their back on me. Recently, the man did not keep his word to me, and I said "You are a coward and always will be" Then I left the job without looking back.
Trust is precious to me because when I do have someone's trust in me, I can do my best to fulfill the trust I have. Will be the same when I give my trust to someone, I would like to see them cherish my trustheartedly.
In the recent world, it is difficult to gain trust, sometimes even from our partners because many cannot appreciate the trust that has been given.

Those with courage, speaking the truth are rarely liked if it comes to it. These are the people who make the other clear (the keyboard heroes of today) they failed in every way.
A coward will always be a coward never fight for a community. They let others do the hard work and their dirty jobs. If you win they will be your friend, if you die during the battle and are a heroe they'll say they always knew you and brag they told and taught you. 😐
In this world trust is hard indeed most likely because we are all a bunch of broken souls trying and walking into walls.
I never make much thought about trust. It's there or not and a broken trust - always more than once - can't be healed. I do not believe people change. They can grow into who they are for real but they do not change.
I trust you and the project but I do not want to pay for what feels like a scam which is the case with the kidney story.
