The megang tradition is deeply ingrained in Acehnese life. Every approaching holy days, such as Ramadan or Eid, people typically buy and prepare meat as a form of togetherness and gratitude. In our village, the meugang ritual also includes the distribution of meat to residents, especially those in need.

This process begins with the registration of eligible residents. Village officials and designated committee members work together to carefully collect data on residents to ensure fair and equitable distribution. This data typically includes low-income families and certain residents prioritized for assistance.

Once the registration process is complete, the process continues with preparations for meat distribution. The available meat is then posted and weighed according to the number of recipients. The committee members work enthusiastically, ensuring that each portion of meat is distributed equally so that all residents receive their fair share.

The atmosphere at the distribution site is quite lively. Residents begin arriving to collect their portions according to a pre-prepared list. Some committee members are also tasked with distributing directly to the homes of residents who cannot attend, such as the elderly or those with disabilities.

For me, moments like this are very meaningful because they demonstrate the unity and caring of the village community. Everyone helps each other, from the data collection process to slaughtering the meat, to distributing it to residents. This reflects the strong value of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) in our community.

This activity also brings a special joy to the recipients. They feel helped and can share in the joy of meugang like everyone else. The smiles and gratitude on their faces are evidence of the significant benefits of this activity.

Although the process was quite tiring, especially for the committee members involved from the beginning, it all felt easy because it was done with such sincerity. The togetherness forged throughout the event was also a very valuable experience.

The distribution of meugang meat is not just a tradition, but also a way to strengthen ties between residents. Through this activity, we are reminded to always care for others and share happiness, especially during important moments.

I hope this tradition will continue and be carried out annually, so that the values ​​of togetherness and caring remain alive in our village community.
