INTRODUCTION

Hello great steemians of steem4nigeria! compliments of the season to you out there. I hope you're preparing for your Xmas celebration. Let me thank @benton3 for this drawing contest so I can show my drawing ability. I love drawing naturally. In this post, I will draw a starfish and also give you more information about a starfish. Let's start.

Steps I Took in Drawing a Starfish

Step 1: I got all my drawing instruments ready:
Pencil, eraser, sharpener and a plane paper.

Step2: I started by drawing the five arms of a starfish as a framework.

Step 3: I drew the central disc and the five inner spines that are connected to the centre with a zigzig lines that represent scales.

Step 4: I inserted tiny legs (cilia) around the arms of the starfish that help in movement. I also inserted the anus at the center of the disc to make my work beautiful.

A Starfish

A starfish, also known as a sea star is a star-shaped animal with a five arms that live in water. Some starfishes have more than five arms. Tbey come in different shapes, colours and sizes.

About a Starfish

*A starfish is in the group of animals called echinoderm which belong to the family of sea urchins, sea cucumber and sea lilies.

*A starfish is not really a fish because it does not have gills, scales or fins like fishes do.

*A starfish does not move like a normal fish does using the tail but it moves using tiny tube feet.

*A typical starfish has five arms although other species may have up to forty arms.

*A starfish does not have blood but only have a system made up of sea water that pumps into it through a sieve plates.

Regeneration

A starfish can reain its lost arms if it is removed or injured by another sea creatures. It can lose an arm and also grow a new one later. It can regenerate an entirely a new starfish though this can take a year or two.

Security

Some species of starfish have adaptive structures called spines which are made for protection from predators like sea birds, fish and other sea enemies. These spines prevent other sea predators from attacking them.

Feeding

A starfish feeds on small sea organisms like clams, small fish, snails, barnacles, and molluscs. If its prey is too big for its small mouth, a starfish uses the arms to wrap the prey, disintegrating it before swallowing it.

Reproduction

A startfish undergoes two types of reproduction: sexually and asexually. Sexually when male and female startfish meet to reproduce their kind. Asexually, It can also reproduce asexually when a starfish gets back its lost arms, leading to a new starfish.
