Before we begin, I want to thank the steemit team for this beautiful privilege to host steemit challenge in this season. Thank you for creating a platform where taste and culture is celebrated. I am glad to be a part of this move.

Welcome to the very first week of this exciting cultural journey -
“My Taste, My Culture” (Expressing Culture Through Taste).

What is this week about?

Week 1: Roots & Identity

This week is all about where you come from (your culture) and the taste for which your people are known.

Culture is a people’s way of life and Food is not just something we eat, It is our identity, tradition, our heritage and history served on a plate.

Every culture has a meal that represents:

• Their roots
• Their people
• Their traditions
• Their heritage

This week, we are exploring food as a symbol of cultural identity and heritage.

🍲 My Cultural Reflection

For this week, I made Egusi Soup and Garri as the food that show cases my cultural roots and heritage.

Egusi soup, is made from ground melon seeds and vegetables. It is widely enjoyed in Nigeria and holds strong cultural value among my tribe (Igbo people, the Eastern part of my country). It can be eaten with different types of swallow such as wheat, fufu, Garri, semolina, plantain flour and etc depending on which you desire.

In my culture which is Igbo culture, this meal represents:

• Hospitality – it’s often prepared to welcome guests.
• Family bonding – we share and enjoyed it together.
• Tradition/heritage – it’s passed down through generations.

It is a meal that represents my root and heritage, making it a true symbol of culture and togetherness.

• Why is this food important to your people? When is it traditionally eaten? (Is it festive, ceremonial, daily, or symbolic?). What does it represent culturally? How does it reflect the lifestyle, values, and history of your people?
• What memories do you personally associate with it and the price of the ingredients in steem and local currency?
• Present your recipe beautifully with a name tag and date and a selfie

• No two participants are allowed to present the same dish. Everyone must create something unique and do not present my own dish either. There are wide variations of food to choose from.
• Post your entry in ladies universe community or on your blog!
• Add a poetic cultural cliche about the food you presented (a short cultural/creative expression)
• Use tags as follows; #mtmcs31w1 #culture #steemexclusive #creativity #food #country. You can use #burnsteem25 tag if you have set 25% beneficiary to @null.
• Your word count should be 300 minimum.
• You should check out at least two other users entries to give meaningful feedback and interactions, that way you learn about other users cultures, add the comment links to your post.
• All images must be yours, no sourced images allowed. You can add a video (optional). Plagiarism, AI content will not be accepted.
• Drop the link to your entry in the comment section of this post (mandatory) and invite 3 active friends to participate.
• This contest is open from Monday (13:4:2026) 00:00 UTC, and closes at 11:59pm UTC on Sunday (19:4:2026).

At the end of each week, I will choose five (5) top users who have followed the rules. These users will get an upvote from @steemcurator01 as a reward for their effort!
