Excellent: Five minute freewrite
Aim Brighter
Give me a title for excellence,
a trait that measures what you’ve done.
A gauge against the work of others —
not to shame, but to see how far you’ve run.
Be the greater light
caught in the bloom
of the brightest among the bright.
Name yourself a sun among stars,
and then burn brighter.
The blind dream of sight.
The near-sighted beg for clarity.
And those with sight?
Let their prayer be this:
make the world better than you found it.
To rest in the mud
is the quiet death of a trapped mind.
Look around — everything is average.
One more hour.
One more draft.
One more refusal to settle,
and the work becomes clean.
Why leave a story flat on the page
when a sharper line,
a stronger image,
a bolder rhythm
can make it breathe?
In everything you touch,
be the one who changes it.
The world keeps growing.
So do the minds that refuse to stay small.
We build ourselves denser, sharper,
complex beyond the ordinary.
Not to earn the word crazy,
but to earn the word genius —
maker of inventions, breaker of records.
I don’t have many words,
only this hope:
Be better tomorrow than today.
Don’t stand watching the world develop.
Develop with it.
Excel in every task, every corner, every quiet thing no one sees.
Be Daniel among the king’s men —
steady when it costs you.
Don’t watch others rise and call it fate.
Work. Stay awake.
Outgrow the ones ahead of you.
And guard your tree.
Let no one cut it at the roots.

Yes yes yes!
Thanks for this inspiring poem.
I'm glad you liked it. I guess we all strive to have a better present than our past, and a better future as well. Have a great week, @primevaldad!
