The National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, also known as the National Eye Hospital, is a government hospital that provides all eye medical services. This hospital, with modern facilities, is spread over a large area. This huge hospital is built on an area of about 3 acres. It is a top institution for eye treatment in the country, which is run by the government. The former Prime Minister of the country was also a patient of this hospital.
The National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital was first opened in 1978. It was developed in stages in 2006, and the hospital was expanded to 250 beds. The hospital provided eye treatment to 2000 patients every day. And the patients of the hospital used to get medical services at no cost or at a low cost.

The hospital authorities have several plans to expand the hospital further and provide more human services, including-

- Automation of hospital services
- Upgrading the operating theater to a modular OT
- Renovation of the hospital
- Arrangement of high-quality training for trainers
- Appointment of at least 3 psychiatrists and 3 clinical psychologists/counselors.
The hospital was serving humanity with a great reputation until May 2025. But towards the end of May 2025, when the country was in a state of conflict with the general public and the oppressive regime, the hospital staff clashed with the injured patients during the uprising. When the conflict crossed the line, the hospital authorities announced an indefinite closure of all operations, including emergency services, due to ongoing security concerns, and it remains closed. Once the situation in the country normalizes, the important hospital can be reopened through mutual understanding.
