First of all, I want to send a big greeting to all the friends of steem and especially to the members of this prestigious community, today I come to share with you a series of publication related to the phobias that human beings suffer or suffer, product of multiple situations such as past experience, sudden panic attacks, the environment or genetics among others.

What we know as ablutophobia:

I believe that all of us at some point in our lives have had and overcome this phobia, since ablutophobia is specifically related to the fear that people irrationally suffer from when bathing or washing themselves. Besides, this phobia can affect both children and adults, being more common in women.

Bathing is an essential stop for human beings for reasons of medical health and personal hygiene, as well as to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses. Also nowadays with the pandemic the sufferers of this phobia suffer a lot because one of the ways to prevent covid-19 is to wash hands frequently.

For most people, bathing represents a pleasant and routine moment, since it is recommended to bathe at least twice a day, but for people with ablutophobia, it is frightening, difficult and stressful.

What are its symptoms?:

The most common symptoms of ablutophobia are the typical behavior of the grumpy child and adult who makes many excuses not to bathe.

Undoubtedly, one of the most frequent symptoms is fear. This fear is not represented by the eminent danger of death, but it is a fear that persists for a long time up to approximately 6 months.

We can also mention some other symptoms such as a very accelerated pulse, breathing with great difficulty when talking about bathing, accelerated heartbeat (tachycardia), some sudden moments where there are sudden changes in the weather, being very hot or very cold, among others.

People suffering from ablutophobia may also feel disconnected from reality at many times of the day, as well as from their bodies, fearing that they may faint, lose control and die.

Consequences of ablutophobia:

All the people who have this terrible phobia, as a result of being afraid of bathing or washing themselves, have many problems in their jobs or school and sometimes they are socially allied and become depressed.

Both their image and self-esteem suffer enormous changes both in children and adults, being the object of harassment in any environment where they are or where they have a social life.

Some possible causes for developing ablutophobia:

Environmental factors:

Some people think that genetics may possibly contribute some development to the phobia, along with environmental factors and individual developmental experiences. An example of this is that if we have a relative who has this condition and their offspring develop the same behavior, then we would ask ourselves this question: Is it a product of genetics that they developed the same pattern or did they learn the model behavior from the parent?.

Trauma:

After living the experience of a trauma some people develop ablutophobia, product of the bad experience at the moment of bathing or drinking water, that has produced an unfortunate event. It can also be the result of knowing a sudden and very dangerous event such as drowning or washing hands with a chemical that triggers the phobia.

What is the treatment for Ablutophobia?:

Medical science has discovered that the best treatment for this condition is therapy and medication. However, the ideal is to be able to make a diagnosis to make sure if you really have this medical problem.

In children it is important to be able to discover it in time and to medicate them, otherwise there is a possibility that their phobia may not disappear and worsen their medical condition.
