This is Why Mounding Soil Around Pepper Plants Changes Everything
Growing pepper in Ghana comes with problems for farmers when the pepper plant starts producing so much green fruits. The main thing I've noticed is the new weight on the plant branches.
Most of the farmers I know that plant these crops usually focus on getting more yields using fertilizer but they fail to give good enough support to the pepper plant. One thing you should bare in mind is that the structure of pepper plant is delicate. So when it is loaded with fruits it can easily fall and the fruits will touch the ground which has so much water and the fruits will be rotten before the farmer can harvest them.
What you're to do to help the situation is what we call in agriculture, mounding. Mounding of the soil around the plant base is the agronomic solution to that problem.
You just collect the excess soil from the cultivation of your pepper plot, mound it up against the plant base so you can create an excellent anchor for the stalks of your pepper plants, which will prevent them from breaking under their own weight.
As the plants grow they can be supported by the strong stem and spread out to gather even more light and to produce even more peppers.
Besides holding up the peppers, the mound of earth has other functions like it can protect the stems from the sun and also help to keep moisture in the soil for a longer period. The covered stems of the plants also sprout new roots and this enables the plants to get extra nutrients from the earth to make the peppers huge and healthy.
So to everyone on Steemit, if you are a farmer trying to get huge yields from your pepper plants, then please use the very best farming tips and materials. You can't try to go cheap on farming and also neglect the wisdom and expect to maximize your yield.
