The diary game: A Day of Pride and Farewell in the Meadows of Yousmarg. 31 03-2026

Today was my maternal uncle’s retirement day, and he had asked me to accompany him to a party that his department had organized at the beautiful meadow of Yousmarg. All the people who were to attend the function were invited for lunch. My uncle had been invited with his family, but he decided to take only me with him. He had called me a day before to inform me so that I could be ready on time.

For this reason, I woke up very early in the morning. My cousin, who had arrived at our place just a day before, had to go to school, so I dropped him back home. After that, it was time to leave along with my uncle. I had already taken leave from my office to accompany him. After dropping my cousin, I waited for some time until my uncle called and informed me that he was waiting for me in town. I quickly went to meet him.

As soon as I reached him, we set off for the tourist place, which is located about 30 km from the town. Before leaving, my mother asked me to buy a few items for the journey, so we stopped at a couple of places and then finally continued our trip. On the way, clouds and rainfall started appearing, and the entire area was covered with fog. Even short distances were hardly visible, which made driving quite difficult. Still, I drove carefully to avoid any mishap.

Upon reaching Yousmarg, we were warmly greeted by my uncle’s colleagues. He met his seniors and old companions in the department. Soon after, we were served tea along with traditional Kashmiri bread. Later, it was time for lunch. We had a traditional Kashmiri Wazwan, where four people shared a single plate, and multiple dishes were served one after another.

After lunch, the farewell function began. My uncle was praised for his service and was given a respectful farewell filled with gratitude. Later, upon a signal from the army personnel who were patrolling the area for security reasons, we were asked to leave, and by then our function had already concluded.

By evening, I returned home feeling quite exhausted and cold. After having dinner, I opened my history book to read about India’s past. Later, after completing everything, I went to my room and fell asleep around 11:30 PM.
