She's almost ready to calve!

This cow has been an amazing cow for our family. She's provided us with one calf already and lots of milk. Now, she's bred again and getting ready to calve soon. She was the first calf we ever had born here, and after we ate her mom, she became our primary milk cow here on the homestead.

Her mother was a very disagreeable creature that preferred to behave like a rodeo bull. She'd often try to charge at me with her horns and was fond of people. Moreover, once she gave birth to Zinnia, the cow featured in these photos, she rejected her and would not allow her to nurse. At that Mama-Pepper stepped in and began to bottle-feed her. She became a very kind and gentle calf, and has grown into a fantastic milk cow for our homestead.

We'll let you know when she calves, and we are super-excited to meet her baby. Pinkie-Pepper took some photos of Mama-Pepper and Zinnia the other day, so we thought she'd share them as a teaser for the upcoming calf birth. Enjoy the photos!
