Fighting Abuse on Steem: Fake accounts of Steemians on Hive
Hello my dear Steemians,
Here we are with another post about Abuse that we recently came across while curating our Visual Art Users on Steemit. Many of you who were from beginning on Steem and know about the split of Steem and Hive blockchain that was created when all the accounts that were existing to that point were completed transferred to Hive automatically with the same content. That was good for users as the names of many of us appeared there, that means even if some of us were not posting there but the account with identical name was already there and nobody could create a cheap duplicate and pretend to be one of the user.
But slowly both Blockchains continued their paths their own ways and there are many new users who came first to one or another platform, not knowing that good blogs raise temptation for abusers to enrich themselves using their good name and earn with that, pretending to be original user.
While we are curating Visual Art and on daily basis we are checking the posts on both platform to make sure that we follow the rules and give preference to those who exclusively posting on Steemit.
That is why recently we noticed three users whose Blogs and usernames were copied and Fake Accounts were created. Luckily couple of them already been caught but one user today confirmed that the account on Hive is not his and asking for help. That is the reason why I am writing this post today and want to make you aware about this type of Abuse.
This is the First user @ninoskagsoto, she is from Venezuela and joined in February 2021, she is very active and creating beautiful posts, she is herself very pretty and posts about make-up, her friends and also she is very good in drawing that is why we were supporting her with our Visual Art account.
Once when I noticed that she is posting on Hive too, of course, I was unable to nominate for @booming support and seeing Hive account she got quite good payout there too. I thought, well, it is free to decide for everyone if she wants she can post there.
Few days ago I noticed this comment under her post:
Of course, then I wrote to and got this answer:
But luckily looks like now the user is himself realized that he is revealed and deleted the whole stolen posts, therefore, I am glad for @ninoskagsoto
Another user has created initial account on Hive in October 2021
He was invited to Steemit by @sardrt but when he created his account on Steemit it was hacked and the abuser started to use the account pretending to be @barnabo73.
The original user then had to create another account with a little different username @barnabo-73 and notified "World of Xpilar" community that the abuser is pretending to be him and using his posts.
Here is the original user and his blog on Steemit:
Therefore, it was quite quick that we revealed and stopped the abuser
This is the very recent case of another Visual Art creator who we are supporting with @art-venture, he is very talented Artist from Nigeria
The same story, recently we noticed that the user is also posting in Hive but he is using #steemexclusive tag therefore, just wanted to mention to use the tag correctly
Hearing that I have written another comment to this user and that made me now to do the post and show people how easy to become a Victim of Fake Account abusers:
This is a Fake account on HIVE, you can see that it was created in February 2022, when the original was created in July 2021:
We went through the whole blogs of both, the user on Steemit had been actively taken part in different activities and Communities like Newcomer, Promo Steem, WOX, so account is alive and interacting.
Unlike the account on Hive that is just copying and pasting and the answers are only:"Thank you"
When you compare the Introduction post of the Original user on Steemit, because it was done with the name written on the piece of paper and also has blue touch, look how it looks:
Here is the manipulated Photo when the Fake user using computer to delete the text and enter computerized writings:
After I have sent this post I came across another very suspicious account that presented a beautiful girl with once again wonderful posts, but if she was very communicable on HIve with comprehensive answers, the account on Steemit did not write any replies. Therefore, I got in touch ion Hive and here is the answer I received pretty quickly:
I am pretty sure we will be seeing this phenomenon more and more around. I only can say, if you do not have account on one of the blockchain just create one and book your username so that nobody else can use it and pretend you.
When curating the posts please be active Curator, that means not only look or read and give Upvote, but:
Study the post, see who is the user and what he is posting. Drop him message and see if he will respond
If you have suspicion about possible Fake account that is cloned please DON'T LOOK AWAY, NEXT TIME IT COULD BE YOUR ACCOUNT THAT IS ABUSED!
Make sure you are checking the Hive blog as some of the users are already revealed as Fake and blacklisted on Hive too.
We are glad that our Project of Fighting Plagiarism and Abuse on Steemit is supported by the Steemit Team and @steemcurator01 and @endingplagiarism. It is time consuming work but we do not want to give the abusers a chance to profit from property of others.
By the way @steemcurator01, is it possible to block those users completely so that they can't do anything?
Thank you! I confirm the story, and I'm the true barnabo 73 (barnabo-73, not barnabo73)!
Many thanks for the help!
You are welcome, we were glad to be able to block him early but it was also because you alerted us early too.
Djeezus, never thought of that. It's unbelievable how "creative" those b***erds can be in inventing new ways to scam people!
Good job @stef1 👍
After this post was posted, I have found two more accounts and updated the post, if you have an interest. That is horrible, it seems like if someone will dig into it then will find so many abusers, scammers and shit, people who just can't do anything only to cheat and steal.
Do we keep an updated list of abusers somewhere?
I can imagine those guys just wrote a bot to detect people that are on hive and not on steem, or vice versa. Or they search for accounts who didn't post for x-time and steal that identity to post on the other chain...
In fact, every account that was created after the hardfork date can/is suspicious... almost impossible to check them all 😒
I believe in @steemchiller 's Steemworld there is tool find abuse, but I am not sure how far it is possible to search or maybe to implement Blacklist into Steemworld, as everyone is using it. What do you think @steemchiller?
Because now it i sheading toward end of year 2 beg. of 3 years since split, the number of such Identity Frauds will be going up. The problem is due to many communities, even if one community banned user he can post in other and start with clean sheet.
Do those faking other people account from steemit in Hive realize that stealing identify is a cyber crime and eligible to punishment in the constitution?
Some people are just lazy.
Those people are really criminal, but due to Internet and once again decentralized system they are protected and they know that.
I have highlighted the Identity theft in the post on Hive too and reported to Hivewatchers.

Thanks man. You are doing a great job. I don't like people faking my identity
Hello dear friends @stef1 @myskye good morning
Excellent job they do detecting these identity thefts
I will never understand people, why they need to do these things; It is not more satisfying, create a genuine account and fully enjoy the achievement that one can have
What happens is that for that you have to make a great sacrifice, and that is what they try to avoid; Work hard to boost your usernames
congratulations for all you do
That is the most frustrating when people work hard to get a good reputation and then the others sitting and cashing out profit with cheating the others. We all need to be more careful when seeing any suspicious stuff.
If that is true, so much work and dedication for others to enjoy your efforts, but lies have short legs
I just read on hive that this account is false, I leave you so you can see it; This is another case of identity theft
https://steemit.com/@trangbaby/posts
Yes, I have updated my post and the account here is now labelled as "Identity Fraud"
Why are people doing this?
Great job! I admire you.
Thank you Jorge for reading and supporting:)
you have to clean the house
Thank you :)
People are taking advantage of the two platforms. It is sad that people think this way to steal each other's identity and make money with that.
Yes, it seems that there are two types of people one who are creative and successful and another that is lazy and would like success by cheating others. It is frustrating but it seems we will be seeing more and more such cases.
Well done on exposing the culprits stealing work @stef1
Thank you Diana for reading and supporting us.
God Bless you @stef1
Hii it is a very AMAZING post
Nice
Glad you like it :)
