Making a UV (ultraviolet) Cabinet.

🦠 I made a UV cabin for the disinfection of microbes. 🦠

Hello to all who love to fight germs,

Cleaning is something we do all the time in our lives. The most basic substance to be used for cleaning is water. But not all dirt can be removed with water or chemical liquids. The cleaning job that I will explain in this post will be with ultraviolet rays.

To be more specific, Ultraviolet rays serve to destroy the DNA of microorganisms, rendering their vital cells unviable. UV-C Rays are used as a disinfection method.

So why did I need to make this UV cabinet?

Sometimes, electronic malfunctions occur in Robotic Machines in Microbiology Laboratories of hospitals. I'm going into the labs to fix them. There may be infectious viruses or microbes such as Hbv, Hcv, hiv inside the machines. These are in the machine in the form of tubes filled with blood taken from people.

When solving these malfunctions, I have gloves, masks and protective equipment. However, my tool bag and tools such as screwdrivers and pliers in it, which I use to solve the malfunction, are contaminated with germs. We cannot disinfect them with washing. The healthiest cleaning process is cleaning with UV light.

That's exactly why I felt the need to make such a cabin. An unused empty shelf caught my eye. I decided to build a cabin here. I want to share this process with you.

Making a UV (ultraviolet) Cabinet. 🦠

After I decided to make the cabinet, I thought of this empty shelf for practicality. The perimeter of the shelf was closed. So it wouldn't take my time to do the outer environment.

I covered all sides of the shelf with Aluminum Foil. In this way, the UV ray would bounce off the wall every time it hits.

After the coating process was finished, I started to make a light-proof cover for the outer part of the cabinet. I made this cover from a red plexi. I can say that the cutting and filing process during this cover process was quite tiring. 😊

After I placed the cover, I carried out the process of putting UV Lamp housing and Lamp inside. You can also see the little red button on the left in the photo below. From here, I put a switch so that we can turn that lamp on and off.

All my preparations are over. I need to give you a little more information.

Darkens the skin when exposed to UV Rays. If it comes into contact with your skin for a long time, redness of the eyelids, allergies and sunburns may occur. That's why the cabinet I made should not leak the light outside.

I actually took a very big precaution for this. I just wasn't satisfied with the red plexi cover I made. The main reason I chose this shelf was because of the front door that closes like this louver. In this way, the cleaning process inside would be very safe.

As you can see, the blinds covered the inside very nicely, from top to bottom. In this way, the light inside would not leak out. But if you want to see the products inside, you can use the red cover without closing the blind. The choice is yours.

After the interior decoration was finished, I printed a few labels to make the cabinet I made more flashy. It has the word Caution UV on it.

In the photo below, you can see my tool bag and hand tools that I put in the cabin. After solving such malfunctions, I put all my things in this cabinet and start the cleaning process. Remember, millions of invisible microbes can be very close to us. 😊
