During this weekend, there were the spring days of the FAi, the Italian Environment Fund, a private association that tries to recover cultural assets and enhance them. So during these days you can enter places that are usually closed to the public, making an offering of up to €3, and this money will go to charity to this association.

Every year, I always try to choose an interesting place, a place as I was telling you that is usually closed to the public. This time I wanted to explore the prefecture building because even though at the moment it is the building where the person who represents the state is, this building has a long history. In fact, it is more than 700 years old.

in fact the palace at the beginning of the 14th century was the seat of the lords of the Scala, that is, the lords of Verona, it was practically the home of this important family and probably within these walls there were several poets, artists and men of culture, including the famous Dante of yesterday who during his exile chose Verona.

After the fall of the Scaligeri and the arrival of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, the palace was acquired and became the seat of the Podestà, who was the most important civil office in the city and the one who practically administered the city of Verona for the Republic. And naturally in that period the palace became even more important in prestige and was enriched with several frescoes by great Veronese painters, some of which were brought to the Cavalcaselle museum, which I told you about in a video on YouTube.

then unfortunately during the French enlightenment the building suffered several lootings like many places in Italy, and unfortunately many furnishings and decorations were lost but fortunately in 1929 it was radically restored and practically they gave it a fake medieval appearance, it was something that was often done in that era.
Of course we couldn't visit all the rooms of this building, because as I was telling you they are property of the province and therefore they are also used for administrative purposes. However, it was very nice to understand the history of this place, a place that I hadn't had the chance to visit in Verona and which was certainly a great opportunity to always discover something beautiful and always something that is part of our history.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. See you next time.
