New Music: IAN SWEET - Show Me How You Disappear

in Music4 years ago

Lot's of interesting albums coming out this Friday. I've been listening to IAN SWEET's new album out on March 5th a lot. It's their 3rd full-length album and it's a really dense and detailed collection of productions. IAN SWEET is the stage name of Jilian Medford, and if you like things like Phoebe Bridgers or Adult Mom (also out with a new album) you should definitely check it out. My favorite from the album is probably Sword, which might also be the most hooky and approachable.

My body is a sword
It gets sharper when it gets ignored

What a beautiful way to describe loneliness and how it affects us physically as well as mentally.

Most of the other songs have a more indie-rock sound, sometimes with almost shoegaze influences. The other song I'd like to mention is the title track Show Me How You Disappear. Here you can really hear the different influences and how dense the arrangements and production gets: industrial drum beats mixed with acoustic drums, electric guitars that turn acoustic, distorted synths, and CP70s. It's a rich, textured universe they create.

They told me you were a fighter
I didn't believe 'em till you knocked me out

The album is produced by multiple producers, and it's definitely hearable - it changes in style and tone quite a lot. But that doesn't take from the experience - it's nicely put together and mixed by Chris Coady (TV On The Radio, Beach House and more).

All in all IAN SWEET's new album is my recommendation for today, have a listen - I think you'll like it!
