Steem greetings to all , hope we all are doing great .said I should share e you all how mungwin hunting is being carried out in my community.
Grasshopper locally called or known as mungwin by must people in the north west region of Cameroon it's an insect which is being consumed by must people around the city the insects is a seasonal something it only falls during the dry season within the mouth of late or early November and stops falling by mid December.

Method of hunting.

When the time or month is fast approaching, the grasshoppers hunters will locate their drums along roadsides where they's street light because this insect is a greatly attracted by light but the street light alone isn't enough so ,these hunters connect bulbs just below the street lights on the street light poles and with the help of drums , pieces of zincs in which they insert into the drums so that when the insect falls on the zinc,it will directly move into the drum and wouldn't be able to get itself out again because palm oil is been applied into the drums which sticks to their feathers making it difficult for them to fly out.

Another strategy they used in hunting this insect is by walking and catching the insects on walls ,floor, and in the air as it's flying by people who can't afford to do the street light method must often these hunting method is done by children around or the university students who are lovers of these insects.

How helpful it is.

This insect helps some people in meeting up with their needs especially the university students around who can hunt it and thei sell it which the money helps them in many aspects of their life
The insect hunting is actually a great business to some elderly people around the area because it their source of income for the short period of time the insects falls

Health and economic benefits

This insect like any other insects that's eatable contains suitable vitamin like vitamin A B C and proteins content they're equally richer in protein than in milk and fish because they provide more energy than wheat

They also fascinate the natural balance in the decomposition and regrowth of plants

They save as a source of food in some countries must especially Cameroon.
They are roasted to provide some delicacy and also are used as food to feed some animals in a food chain.
They are important native components of several ecosystem.they cause nutrients recycling by breaking down plants fertilizer.

Mungwin❣️ I could flashback during my teenage days in the village where we hunted it in bushes. Gone are those beautiful days in the early morning and evening because these insects will run away immediately sun start shining. The taste of this insect to me in compared to no meat or fish. I love mine when I remove the feathers and fry well dry. It's usually green or brown
