The fabric commonly used in tying Gele could be any cotton material or ankara material, but the most common is Asoke. It is widely known as GELE by many tho. The one I'm going to be using for this is shown below.

It is mostly used in southwestern part of Nigeria which is THE YORUBA WOMEN. They used it in occasions like;

  • Traditional Marriage or weddings if you're a guest
  • Child Dedication
And some big event that women are required to used them. So now I will be taking you step by steps on how to do this multiple pleats or round style gele.

NOW LET'S GET STARTED

Materials Needed

  • Fabric (ASOKE), Size Ratio:45-55 for Base:4-6 PLEATS
  • Model head or mannequin head
  • Safety pins

For the measurement, I am using the 45-55 method;45-55 means one side will be slightly longer than the other one.So for this one I choose to begin the base with pleats,I made eight pleats on the base and I will extend the pleats to the ears.I also make sure the pleats are nice and smooth.

For the crossing, the shorter hand stays inside while the longer hand comes out

Then am going to be making more pleats on the longer flap of the gele

I will also make sure the pleats are tight on the model's head, then I will go ahead and pull them as am making more pleats cause I want it to be tight.

The pleats also has to go all the way to the back before I tie and secure it with an office pin

IMG_20220329_103911.jpg Then I will make more pleats till I get to the end of the fabric

IMG_20220329_104712.jpgAs you can see the round shape has started coming out, then I will go ahead and arrange it out till I get the full round shape then tie it and secure with pin

IMG_20220329_110249.jpgAfter everything, this is how the back is,very rough and untidy. Then you move ahead to wrap it to show the beauty

IMG_20220329_110814.jpgThis is how it will look when you finish wrapping the back

IMG_20220329_111444.jpgNow that we have gotten to the final step, You can now see the outcome of it.
It looks sharp and nice.

IMG_20220329_111605.jpgYou can now slay with your round style gele to church, Traditional Marriage, wedding etc.😊😊

N/B: Please make sure the Pleats are nice and smooth, let it be equal because the beauty of the gele comes out when you don't loose any Pleats.
