I'm excited to introduce SteemYum — a Progressive Web App (PWA) that brings recipe sharing to the Steem Blockchain. Whether you're a home cook or a professional chef, SteemYum lets you publish, discover, and collect recipes — all stored permanently on the blockchain.
What is SteemYum?
SteemYum is a dedicated recipe platform built on top of Steem. No more formatting recipes in Markdown on Steemit — just fill in the fields, add your photos, and publish. Your recipe is stored as a proper Steem post with structured data, beautiful formatting, and full blockchain transparency.
Think of it as Instagram for recipes, powered by Steem.

📝 Easy Recipe Creation
- Step-by-step recipe form: title, description, ingredients, instructions, tips, nutrition info
- Upload up to 4 photos per recipe
- AI-powered recipe import — paste any recipe text and our AI sorts everything into the right fields automatically
- AI recipe generation — don't know what to cook? Just type what you're in the mood for! Enter "something with potatoes and bacon" or "a light summer salad" or simply "Spaghetti Carbonara" — and the AI creates a complete recipe for you with ingredients, step-by-step instructions, nutrition info, side dish recommendations, and tips. It's like having a personal chef who takes your cravings and turns them into a full recipe!
- 1 free AI use per day for every user — the API costs for the AI are currently covered entirely by me (@greece-lover) out of my own pocket. If the community grows and usage increases, we may need to find a sustainable model, but for now: enjoy it for free!
- Choose cuisine, occasion, diet type, and difficulty level
- Allergen labeling (Gluten, Milk, Eggs, Nuts, Soy, and more)
- Preview how your post will look on Steemit before publishing

Every label, button, placeholder, error message, tooltip — everything is translated. No more mixed-language interfaces. We recently completed a comprehensive i18n overhaul where we identified and replaced all hardcoded text strings across the entire application with proper translation keys. The language switches instantly by clicking the flag banner in the header.
This matters. Many potential Steem users, especially older people or those from non-English-speaking countries, are intimidated by English-only interfaces. SteemYum removes that barrier completely.
🔧 Technical Stack
For the developers in the community:
- Frontend: Vue.js 3 + Vuetify 3 (Material Design)
- Backend: .NET 8 (C#) Web API
- Database: MySQL 8 in Docker
- Deployment: Docker Compose on IONOS VPS (Germany)
- Blockchain: Direct Steem API calls (condenser_api)
- Image Hosting: Server-side storage with steemitimages.com proxy
- PWA: Installable on iOS and Android, Service Worker for offline capability
- Authentication: Steem Posting Key (session-based, key is never stored on the server)
- AI: OpenAI integration for recipe import and generation (1 free use per day)
📱 Install as App
SteemYum is a Progressive Web App — install it on your phone for a native app experience:
Android: Open steemyum.app in Chrome → tap "Install SteemYum" banner or Menu → "Add to Home Screen"
iPhone: Open steemyum.app in Safari → Share button → "Add to Home Screen"

SteemAuth Integration (Coming Soon!)
We are currently building SteemAuth — a revolutionary authentication system for the Steem Blockchain. Here's what this means for SteemYum users:
For existing Steem users:
- Connect your Steem account once with your Posting Key
- Choose a simple password (like you would on any website)
- From then on, log in everywhere with just your username + password — no more copying and pasting cryptographic keys!
For new users (the game changer!):
- Sign up with just an email address and a password
- SteemAuth creates your Steem account automatically — for free
- You get 50 SP delegation to start posting and voting immediately
- You don't need to understand blockchain, keys, or crypto — just sign up and start sharing recipes
- All your rewards are automatically powered up weekly to build your account
This is huge for onboarding. Imagine sharing SteemYum with your friends and family who have never heard of blockchain. They click a link, enter their email and a password, and 30 seconds later they're posting recipes and earning crypto. No friction, no confusion, no "what's a Posting Key?"
SteemAuth will also provide an OAuth2 API for other developers — so any Steem app can offer simple password-based login. We're building the infrastructure that Steem has been missing.
