We are Starting a New Homestead
I grew up in Southern California in the shadows of Palomar Mountain and Julian Mountain. I have been in love with the idea of living in the woods and having my own farm/ Homestead. The animals I would dream about having was chickens, turkeys, peacocks, goats, pigs, cows and horses. I also wanted an Orchard, a vegetable garden and flowers everywhere. While my property isn't big enough to have everything I wanted, I can have a lot of it.
While we lived in the NW Arkansas area we had gone deer hunting one year in the Boston Mountains of the Ozarks. Even though we didn't get a deer, we came away with so much more. My husband and I were in love with the mountains and we said to each other, (Just dreaming) "one day we would live in these mountains."
At the time we lived in a rural area in NW Arkansas in our mobile home, on our parents property. Our parents had decided that they were going to sell there property and move into town, as they were getting older and could not keep up with the maintenance of the property. So, with this current dream and the dream of my childhood, we started looking for the property of those dreams.
We need something we could put the mobile home on so it needed utilities to the property and it needed to be usable land. We found this piece of property on the internet. It was in the Boston Mountains, It had most of the utilities and It had an older mobile home on it with a 40x60 cover over it. Our plan was to remove the older mobile home and replace it with ours. So we made an offer and purchased the property.
When it came time to move, the movers came to look at the older mobile home that needed to be moved and we were given the first of disappointing news concerning our ideas.
The older home could not be moved out of place without tearing down the 40x60 cover. The home was up to high in the rafters. That would mean we needed an alternative spot for our mobile home and what would we do with the older one. I looked at my husband, and I was truly disappointed but the old saying came to mind, " When life gives you lemons, Make lemonade." So we left the older mobile home where it is and planned on making it a permanent tool shed and storage.
The Second disappointing news we received was concerning our mobile home. When the movers came out to look at it we were told it could not be moved either. In a previous move someone had bent the I beam on the mobile home, making it unsafe to move. No one would move it with the risk that it would fall apart on the road in the move. This was very disappointing as the home was just paid off and we were looking forward to being out of debt except the property. We then had to refocus on what needed to happen. Well we ended up purchasing a repossessed mobile home and had it moved to the new property. Even though things had not worked the way we originally envisioned things are looking up and our dreams are on there way to becoming a reality.
Wow, I hear you about when things don't go according to our plans. Way to roll with it and press on.
