Rhubarb harvest to make GIN, Ill teach you how to make it. Procedures below

in #homesteading7 years ago (edited)

Hi steemians!

The growing season really has cranked up a gear and I was down on the plot at 10.30 this morning and what a morning it was. I was happy to see the ruhubarb that I had forced back in June was now ready to pick. There was only one thing I had in mind for the rhubarb and that was gin. I got my onions sets in today. I planted Red Baron, they worked well last year so i'm trying them again this year. I also got my peas in the ground, this is a popular heavy crop.

rubharb is not a fruit it's part of vegetable species.

Handy to know-

Here is how I make Rhubarb Gin

All you need is some fresh Rhubarb from the plot/garden try to get the pinkest stalks you can get, (you don't want green stuff!)
sugar and some Gin. You can use any Gin but it's worth spending a few extra pounds here.

1- chop the Rhubarb into pieces and put in a jar.

2- add sugar and give it a good shake (give this a smell) delish!

3- fill the jar with gin and seal shake well.

4- place the jar in a cupboard and shake every few days (do this for a month or so).

When your gin is ready you need to strain the mix and sweeten with simple syrup to taste. This would make a great gift if you
have any left to give away!

I also sowed the seeds right into the ground and watered well, then covered with fleece. I will be looking for 6-8 peas in a pod when I come to
harvest them around August. I have sowed Little Gem Lettuce in a box watered well and covered with glass to keep warm, I will
keep an eye on them over the next few weeks. My garlic is looking good (see pics) .

Additionaly,

Some of the most important jobs will be done this month. Apart from keeping the plot weed free, I'm going to sow seeds outdoors for beetroot, carrots, summer cauliflower, radish. I will also be starting Leeks indoors. The soil is well-prepared as I have been weeding and digging over the last few months and had a lot of the raised beds covered to warm up the soil. If you're looking for me I will be on the plot.
