The work of a nurse in a children's hospital is far more challenging than in general hospitals. Here, patients are unable to articulate their distress in words. A young child expresses pain through crying, and the nurse's primary task is to discern the true underlying cause of that suffering. They keep a keen eye not only on the children's physical symptoms but also on even the slightest changes in their behavior.
Key Responsibilities

Medication and Treatment: Administering the correct dosage of medication—specifically calculated based on the child's weight and age—is of paramount importance. Even a minor oversight can lead to grave consequences; therefore, nurses exercise the utmost caution in this environment. A hospital setting can be a frightening place for any child. Nurses interact with the children and offer them comfort—using toys, stories, and affectionate words—to ensure they feel safe and secure throughout the entire course of their treatment.

The parents of a sick child are often under immense stress and anxiety. Nurses offer them reassurance, explain the child's medical condition, and help them remain calm. A pediatric nurse must be as gentle as a mother when administering an injection, yet as agile as a soldier during an emergency. When a child recovers and returns home—offering the nurse a sweet smile on their way out—it serves as the greatest reward in the world for that nurse.
