The employment social security program has once again received strategic support from the Wali Nanggroe Aceh. In an audience with the Banda Aceh BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (BPJAMSOSTEK) on Friday (10/10/2025) in Meuligoe Wali Nanggroe, His Excellency Teungku Malik Mahmud Al-Haythar emphasized the importance of making social protection part of the moral movement and the Islamic value of ta'awun (mutual assistance).

The meeting discussed policy directions and strategies for expanding social security coverage for workers, especially vulnerable groups and the informal sector in Aceh.

The Head of BPJAMSOSTEK Banda Aceh, Ferina Burhan, outlined several protection programs implemented by her institution, including Work Accident Insurance (JKK), Death Insurance (JKM), Old Age Security (JHT), and Education Scholarships.

"Social security protection is not merely administrative, but a manifestation of the spirit of mutual cooperation and the value of ta'awun (community service). We hope for Your Majesty's support so that all workers in Aceh, especially vulnerable workers, can be protected under the BPJAMSOSTEK umbrella," said Ferina.

The Wali Nanggroe responded with appreciation and emphasized that the BPJAMSOSTEK program aligns with Aceh's ideals of peace—namely, providing social justice and public welfare based on Islamic values and local wisdom.

"Protection for workers is a moral responsibility and a social mandate. The welfare of the Acehnese people is not only the state's duty, but also our collective obligation," asserted the Wali Nanggroe, as conveyed by the Head of Cooperation and Public Relations, Zulfikar Idris.

He also highlighted the low BPJAMSOSTEK participation rate in Aceh, which has only reached 25.46 percent, and urged that expanding participation in the informal sector be a priority. The Wali Nanggroe proposed that cross-institutional collaboration—between BPJS, Baitulmal, MPU, Dayah, and the Aceh Government—be formalized through a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding.

He also emphasized the importance of optimizing zakat funds and productive alms to help finance the contributions of poor workers in the informal sector.

"The contribution of Rp16,800 per person per month is small compared to the benefits. However, the financing system needs to be strengthened through synergy between the Regional Budget (APBK), the Regional Budget (APBA), Baitulmal, and CSR from State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD)," he said.

The Wali Nanggroe also encouraged BPJAMSOSTEK to strengthen its sharia-based services, in line with the Islamic economic system and the implementation of the Aceh Qanun.

On the same occasion, BPJAMSOSTEK presented social security benefit compensation to the heirs of the late Tarmizi, a staff member of the Keurukon Khatibul Wali. The total compensation reached Rp153,547,890, consisting of Rp42 million in JKM (Javanese Social Security) benefits, Rp30 million in JHT balances, and Rp81 million in educational scholarships for the deceased's two children.

Closing the meeting, the Wali Nanggroe reiterated the spiritual value behind the social security program. "BPJS (Social Security) must be a means of mutual cooperation, not just administrative protection," he said.

The hearing concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening the social security system based on sharia and local wisdom, as part of the Aceh Bermartabat Social Agenda.[]
