in Hot News Communitylast month (edited)

I generally do not write or speak about political matters but a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin's to India, on December 4-5, 2025, symbolized the strength of India-Russia relations especially as a lot is going on recently after tariff slap of 50% by the US government on Indian export.

Putin was in India on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation and he attended the 23rd India-Russia Summit, where the two countries signed 19 agreements in areas such as defense, energy, trade, and health.

This visit came amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, where PM Modi delivered a message of peace.

The welcome given to Putin was something even Putin did not expect or the way he shared Modi's car was also something that never happened before. PM Modi escorted him directly from Palam Airport to his residence and warmly welcomed him.

Indian President Draupadi Murmu also honored him, and a dinner was held at Indian President's House, where Modi presented Putin with the Bhagavad Gita a book by Lord Shri Krishna. The two leaders discussed the completion of years of strategic partnership, which began right from Indian independence.

There were some emotional moment at Rajghat on the second day of Putin's visit Rajghat and paid homage at the mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi. He wrote a note in Russian in the visitors' book, translated in Hindi as India and Russia following his principles.

This moment reflects the cultural closeness between the two countries, as Putin has previously expressed respect for Mahtam Gandhi.

This was Putin's 10th visit to India, his first was way back in 2000 when he met the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Delhi and delivered a speech in India Parliament starting with Namaste, and supported India on various issues.

That year he visited Taj Mahal with his wife, Lyudmila, in Agra where he spent 50 minutes admiring its beauty. He also Visited BARC in Mumbai and supported India's nuclear program after Pokhran-2.

Back to recent visit which sets future directionas this visit resulted in number of major agreements, including defense deals, trade growth, and media cooperation.

Putin called Modi an "honest leader" and said India is fortunate. At the end of the visit, after a guard of honor at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Putin returned to Moscow amid slogans like "Russia and India walk together, grow together."

This visit not only strengthens bilateral relations but also demonstrates the two countries' solidarity 7in the face of global challenges.

Overall, Putin's visit elevated the old friendship to new heights.
