Staying in my father’s house whenever everyone gathers for the holiday is always very tiring for me because I end up doing most of the work. I keep hoping the holiday will end soon so everyone can return to their homes. Lately, they have practically turned me into the family chef and the one responsible for all the market runs, without considering that I still go to work, even if not very early. After our morning devotion today, everyone agreed that they wanted to eat chicken pepper soup for breakfast, which meant I had to quickly prepare myself and head to the market to buy the chicken and other ingredients. I don’t like leaving the house without brushing my teeth, and since I had the time, I decided to take a quick shower to freshen up before going out. Before leaving, I instructed my little cousins to make sure the house was neat and told them not to expect me to come back, cook, and still clean everything. When I got to the market, I went straight to the chicken section where there were different sizes and prices. I carefully chose a big chicken so it would be enough for everyone. I also bought fresh pepper, onions, and scent leaves. Once I finished buying everything, I didn’t waste time. I left the market, entered a tricycle, and headed back home to start cooking.

When I got home, everyone was surprised at how fast I returned from the market. I quickly changed my clothes and went straight to the kitchen so I could start cooking without wasting time. I began by washing the chicken thoroughly to make sure it was clean, then I seasoned and marinated it, leaving it to soak for a while so it would taste good. While the chicken was marinating, I decided to make use of the time by washing the rice and putting it on the fire to boil. My main goal was to manage my time properly so I wouldn’t be late for work. After some time, the rice was ready, and the chicken had absorbed the spices well. I then used the chicken to prepare the pepper soup, making sure everything was properly cooked and well seasoned. Once the food was ready, I served everyone, and they were all satisfied. I also ate, but not as much as I would have liked because I was in a hurry to get to work. Luckily, one of my older cousins was going out around the same time, so I decided to follow him since I knew he would help with my transport fare. When we got close to my workplace, I got down from the vehicle while he continued his journey to where he was going.

When I arrived at my workplace, I was quite late, and my supervisor scolded me for it. I immediately apologized and got to work without wasting any more time. I was supposed to go out to the field that day, but because I came late, it was no longer possible, so I had to remain in the office and attend to the patients who came in. After attending to people for a while, I started feeling very hungry because I didn’t eat enough at home. I decided to step out and get some snacks, but before leaving, I made sure I had attended to all the patients present so that no one would be left waiting. When I got to the shop where I usually buy snacks, the woman didn’t have puff-puff or buns, which were what I really wanted. However, she directed me to another place nearby where I could get them hot and fresh. Since it wasn’t far, I decided to go there, bought what I wanted, and returned to the office. Not long after, it started raining heavily, and I just knew that work would soon come to an end for the day. My colleagues who had gone out for fieldwork later returned, completely drenched in the rain. At that moment, I was even grateful that I came late and didn’t follow them out. Soon, it was closing time, and the rain had reduced.

I had plans to attend a meeting in church before going home, so after work I entered a vehicle straight to the church. When I got there, many people had not arrived because of the rain, so we had to wait for a while. After about 15 minutes, a few members were present, and we decided to start the meeting. We began with an opening prayer said by one of us, then we discussed everything that needed to be addressed. The meeting did not last too long, and it was later adjourned. After that, I started making my way back home. Luckily for me, one of my church members who came with a car offered to drop me off. I was very happy because it is usually difficult to find a vehicle when it is raining, and even when you do, the transport fare is always very high. He drove me safely and dropped me at home. When I got home, some of my family members were already asleep. I went straight to the kitchen to boil some water because I was feeling very cold from the rain. After boiling the water, I took my bath and felt much better. I then ate something, relaxed a bit, and soon fell asleep. Thanks for reading.
