Once the trap is ready, you can employ several effective methods to successfully lure mice into it and permanently resolve this infestation problem:

  1. Choosing the Right 'Bait' for the Trap is Essential

Mice are very cunning creatures; they do not enter cages easily. To attract them, place an item on the trap's hook that possesses an aroma compelling enough to draw them in:

Bread with Ghee or Oil: Apply a small amount of clarified butter (ghee) or mustard oil to a piece of bread. Mice are particularly fond of this scent.

Peanut Butter or Chocolate: Mice are quickly drawn to items that are sweet and possess a strong aroma.

Fried Poori or Pakora: The strong, savory scent of these fried snacks immediately lures mice toward the trap.

  1. Choosing the Right Location for the Cage

Mice never roam in open spaces or in the middle of a room. They invariably move along walls, in corners, behind cupboards, or in dark, secluded areas. Therefore, you should always place the trap:

In the corners of the kitchen or behind the gas cylinder.

In the storeroom or near sacks of grain.

Ensure that the cage is placed in a location where it is out of reach of children or household pets.

  1. What to Do After Catching a Mouse?

As soon as a mouse is trapped in the cage, immediately take it far away from your home—at least 1–2 kilometers away—and release it in a secluded open field or a wooded area. If you release them too close to your home, they will simply find their way back. After releasing the mouse, thoroughly wash the cage with hot water and detergent; mice leave behind a distinct scent that, if left unwashed, will alert other mice and cause them to steer clear of the trap.
