Car tips #1 - How To Buy A Used Car

in #howto7 years ago

Hello my new steemit friends,

For those who don't know me, and at this point in time that is pretty much everyone, I'm going to introduce myself shortly.
I'm a 21 years old student and a huge car lover. I worked part time on different student jobs for almost 2 years and I managed to buy my first car. It was used one and I want to share with you my experience and also give you some helpful tips on buying a used car.

1. OWNER

Before you even look at the car, you must ask the owner what he thinks about his car, what parts he changed, are there any problems etc. This maybe doesn't sound very important but later if you find something new that he didn't tell us, we will be able to negotiate a lower the price of the car.

2. OBSERVE

Looking at the car can tell you so much. It is better that the car is parked in the sun so you are able to see every little detail on it. Slowly, walk around the car and check fo damage and rust especially around bumpers and tires.

3. TIRES

Every tire has number which tell you when it is made. That number has two parts. First part of a number tells you a week in a year and a second part tells you what year is that. . For example if a tire is made at 11. week of 2017., on the tire will be print 11 17.

4. ENGINE

Now, this is a most important part, so read carefully.

First ask the owner to open the hood and to start the car. Then you must wait until engine gets heated to 90°C. That is the temperature when the engine starts to mix the water from the car cooler. On that temperature the ventilator of the car must turn on. After the ventilator turns off, check the car temperature and it must be decreased for at least 20°C.

Then you need to open the oil stopper. Every engine has two of them. After you opened it and if the engine still works, there mustn't be any smoke. If there is a smoke than the engine is in a bad shape and it will die soon.

If these two things are fine, ask the owner to turn off the car and to open an air filter. it is really easy to open, just 2 knobs are holding it. Air filter needs to be clean, with no oil, only a bit of dust on it.

In the end engine needs to run without any clapping.

5. MILEAGE

This is the most popular thing which owners like to change. It is not easy to approximately guess the cars mileage without looking at them. When looking at the cars condition you can be a bit sure about numbers.
Every year the car goes to a technical inspection and registration. In those papers you can find how much mileageit did in a year. So if you found that car goes average 20 000 miles per year , you can guess the mileage and see if that number fits with that one in the car.

6. TEST DRIVE

Here you need to check clutch, brakes, handling and car shift. I think that everyone know how to check these. Only ,I can tell a bit about how to test a clutch. You need to lift up handbrake, put the car in first gear and start slowly to go. If a car is fighting to go and clutch doesn't slip then it is perfect.

7. ALMOST DONE

If car passed these test, then you go to local mechanic where the car will be lifted and where you will be able to see exhaust and rust under it.

8. PRICE

You need to negotiate about the price. Now, I`m coming back to number 1. Every bad thing you found out that owner didn't tell you, use it for lowering the price.
