How significant is the word memory to you? Share!

Memory, first and foremost, is the brain's ability to translate information or experiences, store them, retain them and recall or retrieve them at a later time. Memory is very significant to me for the following reasons:

  • It helps me to connect my past experience with the present.
  • Memory helps me to keep connections and relationships with others.
  • It helps me to avoid making the same mistake. Instead, to learn from it.
  • It helps me in learning. Without memory, I wouldn't have been able to attend school and pass my exams.
  • Memory informed me about the past and helps me in making a better plan ahead.
  • Memory influences me to think very indebtly.

A philosopher by the name John Locke said that a child is born tabula rasa, meaning that our character, knowledge and everything we are is developed as a result of what we see and our experiences. This shows that memory plays a key role in becoming who I am today.

Do you believe that memories serve as the foundation for our understanding, enabling us to distinguish between pros and cons?

Yes, I strongly believe that memory serves as the foundation for our understanding and enables us to distinguish between pros and cons.
First and foremost, there can be no understanding where there is no memory. It will be as if a person is listening with the right ear, and the same information is escaping through the left ear, leaving us with no trace of what we heard. Memory helps us understand what we hear and the events around us, thereby giving us the ability to identify and figure out the pros and cons.

Share some memories of yours that make you nostalgic!

From time to time, I have flashbacks of my childhood days when I used to be the favourite of my parent, though they were not rich, but they lavished their love and care on me and my siblings. One of these days, my father sat me down and gave me all the counsel I needed which he ended with a commitment that he would sponsor my education to any length if I would continue to be the good boy that I am. Unfortunately for me, he fell sick and died a few years after making this commitment. With this happening, I had to struggle so hard to further my education. The experience I later had always makes me bring to memory the good days I had with my father and the commitment he made, which death didn't allow him to fulfil.

Conclusion
Memory forms our personality, knowledge and character. What we are today is developed as a result of what we see and our experiences.
