Back then in my area, there was a girl named Victoria. Everybody loved her so well ,because she was really—smart, and also cheerful. She was the best dancer in her school, and always at front leading debates and helping others. Teachers used to say, “This girl will surely go far oo.”

But one day, on her way home from school, a car accident changed everything about her. However she survived, but her legs didn’t survive the accident. The doctor said, “She may never walk again.” It was a sorrowful and a pity incident.

Her friends back then stopped visiting her. Her classmates gave up on her and moved on. Even her church group forgot about her.

But Victoria didn’t give up, even thoe she couldn't walk again.

Her parents provided her with a wheelchair and she started using it. Soon she returned back to school. She studied more harder. She joined online classes and debates. But how about today??, That Same Victoria is a motivational speaker and working now in an oil company. She says, “I lost my legs, but I found my future.”

This story made me think more deeply of the word disability.

👀 How Do You Glance Towards the Word "Disability"?

To be honest, back then, i used to think that disability meant someone who was weak or less important to others. But as at now i see things more differently.

To me now, the word Disability doesn’t mean someone is useless or not important to other people. But instead ,it simply means that they do things in a different way, with all their best.

In some areas, many people still believe that disability is a curse or punishment to the person. Some even hide their own children who have disabilities. But that mindset needs to be change and amend.

With some experience here is why I said so:

  • The True fact is that a person who cannot walk can still be a great teacher.

  • Truth be told, someone who cannot hear well can still be a great and a talented artist that people love.

  • Also a person who thinks slowly can still be love deeply and bring joy to other people with in different methods.

So when I glance at the word disability, I don’t see shame. I see strength. And I also see them as people who face big and difficult challenges every day and they still choose to smile and do their best. Surely thats a real courage to imitate.

⚖️ Which Disability Is More Challenging? Physical or Mental!

This question really made me think more deeper.

However, physical disability which is someone not being able to walk or see—is easy to notice. Because People can see it and may also offer to help them.

But you see mental disability,it is hidden. Maybe the person forgets things quickly, he or she can behaves very differently, or struggles to understand what people say. People don’t see this mental disability, so they can choose to laugh, insult, or ignore them.

This one can really pain a lot. Why I said so is because the person will be really suffering deep down, inside. However at that moment nobody will be able to easily understand them.

So in all ,for me, I believe that mental disability can be really more challenging than the physical disability. But then, the truth is that, both physical and mental disabilities need love, care, and support. Therefore, nobody chooses to be disable in any way. And nobody deserves to be treated badly because of it.

💪 How Can We Encourage Those Going Through Disability?

However,i believe we all have a role to play in these. Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

  1. Talk to Them with Respect
We should not shout or talk down to them. We must use kind words. Smile. Greet them like we greet anyone else.

  2. Trying to Include Them in Activities
Let them join games, school, work. Don’t leave them out. Everybody wants to feel part of something.

  3. Helping Them Without Making Them Feel very Small
If we want to help them, we should surely ask them first. So that we won't make them feel like they are a burden. When they agreed for us to help we should help them with joy, not with pity.

  4. Celebrating The Little Strengths they have.
Some people with disability are good at singing, drawing, teaching, or fixing things. We can Clap for them. And also encourage their talents.

  5. We should Teach Others too to Be Kind to them.
Telling our children, friends, and neighbors to treat people with disability very well.

Disability is not the end of someone life. It’s a new way to shine and do some adjustments. A new way to live.

Let’s stop looking at people with pity. Let’s start looking with love. Because if we were in their shoes we’ll need the same kindness we give today.

So next time we see someone with a disability, we shouldn't turn our face and laugh or frown face. Instead we can smile. Greet them. Ask how they are doing as the case might be. With this we can change their day—and maybe their life too.
