In your own opinion, what criteria should be considered when selecting individuals to serve on a selection panel?
A selection panel should be professionally and balanced to achieve fair and effective hiring process. Key criteria include:
Subject Matter Expertise: The members should know well the technical aspects of the role in order to properly vet competency.
Diversity of Viewpoint: Having an inclusive approach in terms of gender, ethnicity, and department will help reduce unconscious bias, as well as provide a holistic assessment of culture add.
Trained Objectivity: The panelists would be trained to debias and use behavioural interviewing.
Stakeholder Representation: There is one peer and cross, at least, that has insight about the daily collaboration.
- Honesty: No compromise on high level of ethics to uphold credibility of the process.
The choice in favor of these qualities will turn an interview session into an effective talent acquisition instrument.
According to you, how significant is checking the background when selecting anyone for anything? Justify your viewpoint with an example.
The background checking is an essential practice, not a mere procedure. The past is the surest indicator of the future behavior of a person whether they are hiring, dating or contracting. Rushing this step would be playing a dice with your security and reputation.
People are dynamic and patterns hardly ever are. Verification cleanses the given self with reality to weed out possible hazards such as fraud, incompetence or malicious character before they can inflict harm.
The Impact in Action
Suppose you hire a Financial Controller just on a snazzed interview. Lack of background check will mean that you could miss out on a history of embezzlement in his previous company. Six months down the line, your company becomes bankrupt because of internal theft. In this instance, a mere check was not merely a mere formality but it was the distinction between being able to pay and winding up.
Which qualities would you glance at while selecting anyone? Explain.
When choosing the person, whether it is a team, project or partnership, I do not focus on the top. The following are the key attributes that are important:
Integrity: This is the principle. I appreciate individuals who are constant, truthful and own up to their errors and not passing the buck.
Adaptability: The growth mindset is hard to teach, but skills may be taught. I seek them who remain within the flow of things, and see problems as mazes to enter.
*Reliability: Giving lip service to brilliance is worthless. Any high-stakes collaboration requires the trust that is built through consistency.
- Curiosity: A student of the game introduces new visions. I attract people who question why and how rather than taking directions.
Finally, it is more of personality than qualifications.
