Why Every Traveller Should Visit Rajasthan At Least Once In Their Life
I have traveled to quite a few places in my life — hill stations, beaches, big cities. But nothing quite prepared me for Rajasthan. The moment I stepped off the train in Jaipur and saw the pink-walled buildings glowing in the early morning light, I knew this trip was going to be different.
Rajasthan is not just a destination. It is an experience that gets under your skin and stays there long after you have come back home.
The forts that make you feel small in the best way
I started in Jaipur, where the Amber Fort sits on a hilltop overlooking a lake like it has been standing guard since forever — because it has. Walking through its gates, you can almost hear the echoes of a time when maharajas ruled these lands. The craftsmanship in every arch, every tile, every corridor is breathtaking. I spent three hours there thinking it had been one.
Then came Jodhpur — the Blue City. The streets of the old town are painted in every shade of blue you can imagine, and the Mehrangarh Fort looms above everything like a giant sculpted out of the mountain itself. Standing at the top, looking out over the city, I genuinely felt like I was inside a painting.
The people are the real highlight
What struck me most about Rajasthan was not the architecture or the food — though both are extraordinary. It was the people. Warm, proud, incredibly hospitable. A chai shop owner in Jaisalmer invited me to sit and chat for an hour without ever asking me to buy anything. An elderly woman near the Pushkar lake taught me how to tie a turban properly and laughed wholeheartedly when I got it wrong three times in a row.
These moments — unplanned, unscripted — are the ones that travel is really made of.
The food deserves its own post
Dal baati churma. Laal maas. Ker sangri. Ghevar. If you are a food lover, Rajasthan will ruin you for ordinary meals for a very long time. I ate at roadside dhabas, rooftop restaurants, and a tiny home kitchen where a family served me the best thali I have ever had in my life. Every bite told a story.
Best time to visit: October to March. Summers are brutally hot and winters are perfect — cool nights, clear skies, and the desert landscape at its most beautiful.
My honest take
If you are looking for a place that will challenge you, move you, feed you, and completely overwhelm your senses in the best possible way — go to Rajasthan. Go without a fully packed itinerary. Leave room for the unexpected. That is where the magic lives.
Have you been to Rajasthan? Or is it on your bucket list? Tell me in the comments — I would love to swap stories.
