In my opinion, the criteria that should be considered when selecting individuals to serve on a selection panel should be the following underlined.

• Knowledge and Expertise:
  The individual should be someone that have relevant understanding of the position, field, and experience.

• Communication Skills:
  The individual should have the ability to communicate, listen to others, and articulate ideas, and opinions.

• Fairness and Objectivity:
  The individual should be someone who is selected based on merit and not based on favouritism.

• Ethics and Integrity:
  The individual should be someone with high moral standards and someone honest and transparent.

• Teamwork and Collaboration:
  We should select an individual who is willing to work for the good of others and not just for their own benefit. At least someone that respect and takes other people's ideas.

YES, checking the background when selecting anyone for anything is very important because it helps people or those in selection to verify the person's past and present life, who the person claims he or she is, the person's character, credentials, and whether he or she has been involved in criminal activity, which helps to identify potential red flags.

For example, if a president or a company wants to hire or appoint an accountant, checking the person's background could reveal the person's past fraud or financial misconduct which therefore prevents the government or company from hiring someone who might pose a risk to the government or company's integrity. In conclusion to this background check is to ensure that whatever decision is being taken to select an individual is based on trust.

As for me the qualities that I would glance at while selecting anyone are the following:

• Reliability:
  I will look at the person's consistency and dependability in their actions.

• Integrity:
  I will look at how honest the person is and his or her moral principles.

• Competence:
  I will look at the person's skills and knowledge.

• Adaptability:
  I will look at how the person can handle and overcome challenges.

• Positive attitude:
  I will look at how willing the person is to work.

• Interpersonal skills:
  I will look at the ability of the person to communicate and work with others.
