Family is just not about people living under one roof. It's a emotion of love, warmth, compassion and trust. It is a unit based on which we build our lives. I believe that a family unit makes us responsible and accountable. It's our first learning ground. We get shaped up to who we become as adults in our families. It's the love and support of our families which gives us confidence to grow in life.

- The significance of familial influences during childhood- For any child a family is the first place to fall back on. If a child does not have a good family background or enough family support then it can be very devastating for the child's growth. Both parents play an equally important role in upbringing of the child. A child's family is just not limited to parents, it also includes their grand-parents and other extended family. It depends which type of family unit they are living in, joint or nuclear. A peaceful family environment at home will nurture the child and give a healthy and safe environment to a child.

As a child I had a broken home, and stayed away from home from my parents for a long time and this impacted me a lot as I grew up. I had multiple behavioral issues. When I got married it was difficult for me to live with my in-laws, because I was never used to living in family set-ups. It took me a long long time to overcome those traumas of childhood and start living a normal life. As a child if we keep seeing our parents fight or if they are forever busy in their jobs, then these are the things that impact the brain development of the child. Also childhood traumas are deeply rooted and they are not very easy to heal.

- Which type of familial culture would you prefer - I prefer a nuclear family culture and at the same time staying close with the extended family members. With my Son, I have had this experience. I lived in a joint family and there were too many influences on him. Not necessary every time all the influences were aligned. There were times when there were conflicting influences and this is not healthy for a child. It only leaves the child in a state of confusion. While I would prefer to live in a nuclear family, I would want to be in close vicinity of my other family members, like grandparents, aunts, uncle.

With this the daily upbringing of the child will not have any conflicts and also the child will be closely associated with other family members and understand the importance of family.

- Please analyse the advantages and disadvantages associated with various family structures, including joint families, nuclear families, and professional families. - Honestly it is individual's preference and there is no right or wrong about any family structure, and each one of them have their own pros and cons.
In a nuclear family, the upbringing of a child happens in a very non-conflicting manner. The parents will take joint decision for their child understanding what is right or wrong for them. At the same time, sometimes they themselves can be in a state of confusion and may not be able to deal with the situation.

In a joint family, there is support of each other, if one cannot manage something the other will pick up. At the same time it can become conflicting also.

These days it has become a necessity for both the parents to work, so when both the parents are working a joint family unit can be useful because the child will be well taken care off. At the same time, there will be too many influences on the child which can leave the child in a state of confusion. As working professions also parents need to understand that their child has to be their top most priority. If they neglect the child in their ambitions then this can be harmful for the child's mental growth.

Conclusion - In today's fast paced world it's easy to get lost in our own individual interest but we must not forget that family is the place where we will find our support and comfort. Whether parents, children, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, we can need support of them at any point of time in life. These are the people who we say family and who will be there by us when we need them. If we inculcate the family values in children right from a very early age, that will help them appreciate the value of family.
