The May contest #2 by sduttaskitchen: Society requires Security!
What is the definition of security according to your perspective?
From my perspective, security is not just about protection from danger. It is a feeling of peace that allows people breathe well and live without constant fear. Security is not limited to protecting buildings or money, it also include emotional, social, economic and personal well-being.
A person can live in a house with bullet proofs and strong locks but still feel insecurity due to violence, discrimination or loneliness. Therefore true security is when people feel protected physically, mentally, socially and economically.
In addition to prioritising technical security measures, it is essential for us also to address the aspect of social security. I welcome your insights on this matter.
Talking about security, the first thing many people think about when discussing security is technical securitie like; surveillance cameras, passwords, cybersecurity systems, alarm systems, police protection, and modern technology used to prevent crime or attacks. These systems are important because they help reduce risks and maintain order in society.
In today’s digital world, technical security has become more necessary because personal informations, businesses, and governments depend strongly on technology. Without proper cybersecurity, people can lose money and their privacy. However, technical security alone is not enough to create a safe society, we have to consider social security which is equally important because many threats in society come from social problems rather than technological weaknesses.
Social security refers to the conditions that support human dignity and stability, such as access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities, justice, and social support. When people are unemployed, excluded, hungry, or treated unfairly, frustration and crime often increase. In many cases, insecurity begins from social inequality and lack of opportunities.
For example; a young person who grows up without education or employment may become vulnerable to crime or violence. On the other hand, when people feel supported or valued by society, they are more likely to contribute positively to their communities. This is why governments and communities should invest not only in police and technology but also in social welfare programs, mental health support, quality education, and poverty reduction. A society where people trust one another and feel included is naturally more secure.
Another important aspect of social security is emotional and psychological safety. I think people should feel free to express themselves without fear of abuse, discrimination, or oppression from others. Families, schools, workplaces, and communities all play a role in creating environments where individuals feel respected and protected. Social harmony cannot exist where hatred, corruption, and injustice dominate everyday life.
To establish a civilised society, what are the key principles that should be implemented?
The first principle is justice. Laws should apply equally to everyone regardless of status, wealth, gender, or background. When justice is absent, people lose trust in society and there you have conflicts.
The second principle is respect for human rights and dignity. Every individual deserves fair treatment, freedom, and equal opportunities.
The third principle is education. Education helps people think critically, solve problems peacefully, and understand the importance of coexistence. A society with educated citizens is more likely to progress peacefully and responsibly.
Another principle is accountability. Leaders and citizens alike must take responsibility for their actions. Corruption, dishonesty, and abuse of power weaken society and create instability.
Finally, we have empathy and cooperation which are important for a civilized society. People must learn to care about one another instead of focusing only on personal gain. Communities become stronger when individuals support each other during difficulties.
In conclusion, security should be understood as both physical protection and human well-being. Technical security measures are important, but without social security, true peace cannot exist. A civilized society can only grow through justice, education, equality, accountability, and compassion.
