The significance of familial influences during childhood cannot be overstated because it determines; how a child sees the world, how children handle failures and successes, the confidence level of children, their moral compass, and also their attitudes towards relationships, money, and responsibilities.

A child doesn't just pay attention to what his or her parents say to him or her; instead, they absorb what they see their parents do.

Having said that it means that if a child grows up in a respectful home, they learn respect, it is a violent home they normalise aggression, in a disciplined home the child values structure and in a supportive home the child develops confidence.

Balance family culture is what I would prefer which is the one that combines: African communal values and modern emotional intelligence.

The reason for my preference is that purely traditional homes like my own home can sometimes suppress emotional expression whereas purely modern homes can sometimes weaken authority and discipline which we are seeing in Gen Z.

In my own opinion, the ideal culture is; Respect but not oppressive, disciplined but not harsh, loving but not overprotective, structured but flexible. Having a balanced home builds responsible adults with confidence.
