Travel Indonesia #1 Komodo Island
Komodo Island and its surrounding Islands are some of the most amazing places i have visited. Its a 45 minute flight east of Bali, Indonesia's most famous Island. I would highly recommend adding a few extra days to your trip to Bali and popping over to the Island of Flores where you will land at Komodo Airport and from there you can choose from a few different boat trips depending on your budget and available time.
I chose the 2D/1N trip which cost about 100 dollars all inclusive (food, water and accommodation). Our boat had three rooms with bunk-beds in all three accommodating six people.
The first day we set off to Komodo Island which took about 2 hours. We entered Komodo National Park (roughly 30 dollar entry fee) and were met by two guides who showed us around the Island and took us on a short hike looking for komodos.
Its amazing getting so close to these rare and dangerous reptiles and this is the only place that you can do so. We then set off to nice spot to catch the sunset and park the boat up for the night.
The next morning we went to a few really good snorkeling spots and visited Padar Island, an island with an incredible view after a 45 minute hike to the top.
It is significantly cheaper to book it through an agent in Flores as opposed to online before you get there. You will find them on the main street near the dock which is also where the few restaurants and hotels are located. I arrived in the evening, booked my trip that night and set off the next morning. I stayed one more night in Flores after the trip before returning to Bali. There is also a 3D/2N trip available if you have more time and wish to see even more beautiful places.
