The Battle of Samalanga (Batee ilieq) ... The Samalanga Battle .. (Source: Wikipedia)
In 1880, Samalanga fought against the Dutch. On June 30, 1880, a detachment led by LetDa. HJ. Berghuis van Woortman was attacked suddenly. Karel van der Heijden had to send an expedition there led by May. WA. Schmilau, who therefore arrived in Samalanga on July 14.
The attack on Batee Iliek fortress, near the Aramameh village, asked for the deaths of 5 people and 54 injured. Van der Heijden arrived in Samalanga and tried to drive Pocut Meligoe, the leader of the fighters, from Batee Iliek. The effort failed until the resistance shifted - the return of results was nil and claimed 19 dead and 56 wounded. Van der Heijden must stop further efforts to seize the defense of the Acehnese fighters. Through artillery fire, the enemy was driven away from that place and in the meeting of the Samalanga elders and several elders from the Buya Term who began to stir up, the general hoped that the problem could be resolved peacefully, so that the continued military show would not happen again. On August 10, troops returned to Kutaraja (now Banda Aceh).
Until 1901, Batee Iliek was still the center of fierce resistance. In that same year, Joannes Benedictus van Heutsz launched a new expedition to Samalanga. After killing many Acehnese fighters, he headed for Batee Iliek. On February 1 and 2, the defense of the Acehnese fighters in Batee Iliek and Asan Kumbang were shot by the navy and artillery of the Nanggroe bivouac; after the start of the attack, the 4 defenses of the Acehnese fighters were conquered, after which the enemy position was fiercely defended by the infantry, maréchaussée and landing division. In strengthening themselves during heavy fighting, Acehnese fighters threw a barrel of gunpowder, where Let. Verschuir and 9 other people suffered serious burns. With the invasion of Batee Iliek, several weapons were seized. The Netherlands lost several personnel: 5 people were killed and 29 injured.
