After a meeting between Maduro and Tennessee Republican Senator Bob Corker, a US commission was finally able to meet with Joshua Holt, a US citizen and political prisoner of Venezuela's socialist government. The news was confirmed by his mother after being informed by the US embassy. According to different reports, the American citizen will probably be released this morning. About his wife, Thammy Holt, who is also a political prisoner, it is not known if she will also be freed. Joshua Holt, a native of Utah, was arrested along with his wife Thamara Holt in 2016, after two weeks of their marriage. Minister Gustavo Gonzalez Lopez accused him of carrying a rifle, ammunition, a grenade and a detailed map of Caracas. They have more than 20 months awaiting trial. The funny thing is that the operation in which they are arrested, called OLP (Operative for the Liberation of the People), was an operation carried out to combat common crime and not for political issues or national security. If they (the government) had actually known of the existence of an "American mercenary", the operation would have been executed by the political police, but the truth is that Joshua Holt and his wife were in the wrong place and at the wrong time.

The meeting between Maduro and the Republican senator has raised suspicions, especially because the relations between both countries far from improving have worsened. This week, the United States rejected the presidential elections held in Venezuela. In response, the government expelled the charge d'affaires of the United States. The Trump administration acted reciprocally and expelled two Venezuelan diplomatic officials. The possibilities of an approach of any type between the government of Maduro and any American authority seemed almost nil. How did this happen?
