Why we want to get rich - An Honest Introduceyourself

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

Wouldn't life be so much easier if we were rich? Ourselves, we are not rich. My husband is a soldier in the U.S. Army, and myself, well, I'm a cleaning lady. Great. We are privileged beyond most who are with the military because we are living in Europe. Which we are extremely thankful for. We've been given the opportunity of a lifetime. We've had to grow up, adapt to a new culture, be far away from our families, and many other things that I really can't explain well unless you've lived it. It's all dandy, but sometimes I think about what I could do with the extra time I would have without working so much. What kind of life could we have if the Army didn't own my husband? Neither of us have what I would call ideal jobs. Who wants to clean pubes off of a toilet and who wants to have to potentially shoot another human being? Unless you're just weird, or a psychopath - probably not you either. We aren't resentful of not being rich, in fact it's taught us a lot about the value of money and how to get by on as little as coins to get across a continent (no, seriously that happened to me), but that's a story for another time. However, I do feel like we've been told our whole lives that we can work hard, rise up in life and get to a comfortable point. That just hasn't been happening for us and I know we aren't the only ones.

We were doing some soul searching lately and trying to think of ways we could earn some extra money. It seems like nothing we do is ever enough though. I have been trying the Youtuber route, and my husband has been doing some digging into cryptocurrency. He stumbled upon Steemit and thought we should give it a try, because why not? It's not like we really have anything to lose out of it. We feel like we want to be in the crypto world for the long haul, not just to make a quick buck. We truly believe that the future is heading away from social media sites like Facebook which seem to be a cesspool of negativity anymore. Quite frankly, Facebook has been around for awhile now and it won't be long before people start getting restless and bored with it. We're looking into the future for the next big thing, and so far Steemit and crypto look like they're it. We're at a technology turning point and it's going to happen any time now.

A few of the reasons we want to get rich:
1.) I could say we want to be financially secure, but who doesn't want that? I guess what I'm saying is that we would love to be able to donate more to charity without feeling like we're shorting ourselves. We would love to follow our real dreams. We both are avid outdoorsmen (and woman) and we love just going for a hike or being in nature. If I could get paid to be outside somehow I would do that in a heartbeat.
2.) We want to have kids someday. How can people in the middle to lower class afford kids?! I know we will make it work when that time comes, but it would be so nice to not have to worry about choosing between diapers and alcohol, lol jk. But for real - not having to choose between the lesser of two evils, like a Christmas present we know our child really wants and a necessity for them would be the greatest feeling in the world. I wish we could have kids knowing that we are going to be able to comfortably provide for them and they will have everything they need and at least most of the things they want.
3.) When you're rich people respect you more. This may sound materialistic, but people who dress nicer and have nice things are more respected and you can't deny that. I personally respect the homeless guy on the side of the road as much as I respect a doctor. However, you can't deny that someone is more likely to look up to a doctor than a homeless guy.
4.) And possibly the most relevant in our lives We don't want to just work our lives away. I want to experience things in life. I want to feel my life, I don't want it to pass me by and I wind up being 80 years old thinking 'what did I even do with my life?'. Money is such a strange concept and it feels like it isn't the real point of life. I feel like my life would have much more satisfaction if money wasn't something that was on my mind everyday. We're brought up being taught to save, save, save, to be a good person, work hard, and we'll be rewarded in life; is that really the case?

P.S. These are our fur kids.

Hello @mrbmrsb ! I followed you and UpVoted you!
Very cool that you are here! Steem on!
I wish you happiness! You will be happy on SteemIt! Cool post!

Welcome

Welcome! First off, thank you to your husband for serving our country. It takes a lot of guts to choose that career in today's world. I hope you find much success here. There seems to be a lot of potential in this platform. You're right, I think YouTube and FB are dying off. Their reliance on ad based revenue makes them more unattractive to users every day.

@cassandraf Agreed! You're very welcome. How long have you been using Steemit?

I have only been on here for a month. I kept seeing the site pop up in Google when I was looking for information about cryptocurrency. I started out slow in the beginning, but now I'm pretty hooked. I still don't fully understand everything about how all of this works, but I am slowly learning!

@cassandraf That's great though. I'm going to shoot you a follow, maybe we can learn alongside each other because I'm in the same boat as you. It's a little confusing, especially trying to just figure out the platform. P.S. your hair is really cool!

I followed you too! I get a lot of comments about my hair lol. It obviously isn't very subtle!
